Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Asking Nisha for Help in Acquiring the Daily Bugle

There's a saying that holds true almost everywhere—

A higher-ranking official can crush a person to death.

Nick Fury was the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a Level 10 agent with the highest field authority.

But even Fury had superiors. Above him was the World Security Council, responsible for oversight, management, and funding.

This latest operation had been approved because a corporate consortium had coordinated with the Council and agreed to finance it. Orders from the Council didn't go directly to S.H.I.E.L.D.—they had to pass through one man: Secretary-General Alexander Pierce.

That was why, when Steve Rogers mentioned Pierce's name as the one who ordered him, Fury had no choice but to comply, no matter how displeased he was.

After throwing the steel-bound Faith to the ground, Steve removed his tactical goggles and let them hang around his neck. A calm, confident smile crossed his face.

"I'll leave him to you. Treat me to dinner sometime," he said lightly.

Then he twisted the throttle. The motorcycle roared, its tires spinning as he sped off the mountain road.

Nisha instinctively chased a few steps, worried about his safety. But when she saw the hang gliders unfold from both sides of the motorcycle, she stopped. Steve was already soaring into the night sky.

The man's exit was effortless—cool, capable, and unpretentious.

Nisha's heart fluttered slightly. Steve didn't act like a sycophant or a braggart—he was just genuine, confident, and reliable. Being around him felt easy and natural, as if they were already something more than friends.

Wei Lian bit her lip as she watched Steve disappear into the distance. She already missed him. But as Nisha's personal bodyguard, she would follow her everywhere—even into marriage, if necessary.

If the princess marries Captain Rogers… wouldn't that give me a chance too?

The thought took root like wild grass—impossible to shake off.

With Faith captured, the remaining vampires fell into chaos. Without their leader, they couldn't form any unified force.

Steve personally led teams to clear out the remaining troublemakers, ensuring Nisha could take control of the vampire territories.

It had originally been a deal between the Vampire King and the corporate consortium. As the executor, Nisha gained significant wealth and influence. More importantly, her affection for Steve deepened.

They were now more than friends, but not quite lovers.

Given time, she was certain that line could be crossed.

Three days later, however, a new crisis emerged.

A hostage rescue mission had failed—tragically.

The Wakeman Group's leader had kidnapped Deka, and when local SWAT forces tried to intervene, it ended in disaster.

Thirty operatives—all shot in the head.

The brutality of the case shocked everyone, and Wakeman was immediately placed on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s kill list.

While Fury and Agent Coulson handled logistics, Steve went undercover—to a nightclub.

Tony Stark was buried in experiments, testing samples from captured vampires, leaving little time for fieldwork. Hawkeye was dispatched to track Wakeman.

That left Steve to follow another lead.

Bloody Night Rose Club

One of Nisha's newest acquisitions—and the place where she had invited Steve for a "thank-you" dinner.

The music was loud, the lights dazzling. A dancer moved gracefully under the spotlight, her silhouette a blend of temptation and rhythm.

Colorful beams swept across the dance floor, and the bass vibrated through the room.

It was the kind of place where emotions and impulses blurred together.

Amid the pulsing energy, Steve and Nisha clinked glasses.

"Steve, thank you," Nisha said warmly. "I don't know what I would've done without you."

She tilted her head back, finishing her wine in one smooth motion. Her gaze drifted to his physique—broad shoulders, muscular chest visible even through his casual shirt.

No woman could ignore a man like that. Steve Rogers radiated security—strength, confidence, and quiet dominance.

There were many kinds of safety: wealth, power, charm, status.

He had all of them.

"You're welcome," Steve said modestly. "We're friends. Friends help each other."

He was humble as always. Until they crossed that line between friendship and romance, he kept a careful, gentlemanly distance.

"Then how can I help you?" Nisha asked, biting her red lips. Her makeup was exquisite—dark eyeliner and soft lips giving her a mix of purity and seduction.

Steve leaned closer, slipping her a folded note. His voice lowered.

"I actually do need your help. I want you to help me acquire the Daily Bugle under her name."

Nisha unfolded the note. It contained information about a woman. Her expression shifted—part curiosity, part jealousy.

"It hasn't even been a few days," she teased. "You've already found another woman?"

"This is my subordinate," Steve said with a slight smile, nodding toward a nearby booth.

There, a tall, well-built figure sat—nearly six feet tall, blonde hair, combat boots, and jeans. The woman's posture exuded discipline and danger.

It was the Winter Soldier Steve had rescued from Siberia—the only woman among his recovered teammates.

The men were deployed elsewhere for missions; she remained by Steve's side as a bodyguard and secretary.

Nisha glanced at her again and relaxed. Clearly a subordinate—no real threat.

"Alright then," Nisha said. "The Daily Bugle is the fifth-largest media company in New York. Give me a week."

Acquiring the paper wouldn't be easy. The owner, J. Jonah Jameson, was a notorious profiteer. Buying him out would take money and finesse.

"Thank you, Nisha. You're an amazing friend. I'll have someone send you a hundred million dollars later," Steve said casually.

He never hoarded wealth. Every cent of his ransom funds was used to build loyalty—rewarding allies and earning devotion.

After all, loyal subordinates work harder and don't betray you.

Nisha smiled brightly, showing her perfect white teeth. "It seems you're quite rich."

"Not bad," Steve replied with a grin. "Money only matters when you spend it. If you ever need it, I'll lend you everything I have."

His gaze lingered briefly, playfully admiring the deep neckline of her gown.

Nisha raised an eyebrow, amused and slightly flustered. For the first time, she felt both seen and respected.

If not for Steve Rogers, she wouldn't have worn an evening gown tonight.
