The drops hit Kael's inventory with that familiar weightless snap, and for a second he just stood there on the ledge, breathing through his nose, letting the aftertaste of the fight drain out of his arms. Wind crawled up from the black ravine beneath them, cold and dry, carrying that mineral stink that made the back of his throat feel gritty. It wasn't the kind of place you wanted to linger, not with a timer over your head and a trial that had already proven it loved changing rules mid-run.
Still, loot was loot, and the Tower had a habit of slipping knives into your back the moment you stopped paying attention. Kael pulled the drops up in his vision anyway, because if he was going to sprint after someone and gamble the whole floor on speed, he wanted to know exactly what he'd just earned.
