Yuel's voice even carried a hint of a choked, nasal tone, making him sound utterly pitiful.
"You sent a special message calling me back—not because you missed me, but to interrogate me. The moment we met, you didn't want to hug me, you didn't want to kiss me, you only wanted to check my optical computer. You even made me swear..."
Yuel raised his head, the rims of his eyes already reddened. The floral crown upon his head seemed to sense its master's emotions at that moment, drooping listlessly.
"If this is what you call trust, then I truly don't know what suspicion looks like."
Yuel buried his face into the crook of Rory's neck, his warm breath spilling across her collarbone with a faint tremble.
"I thought you called me back because you missed me, and all along the way I was overjoyed preparing a surprise for you... and yet..."
Rory pressed her lips together. She knew this man was acting, but seeing him look so distressed, her heart still ached for him.
