"Then Gohan, how do you know all this?" Yamcha asked.
"Whis, the attendant of Beerus, the God of Destruction, came to see me and told me," Gohan replied calmly.
"The God of Destruction's attendant?" Krillin said in shock.
"Yes. He even wanted me to become the next God of Destruction, but I refused."
"Refused?" Krillin repeated.
"Why did you refuse?" Yamcha asked.
"Beerus hasn't stepped down yet, so what would be the point of agreeing?" Gohan said lightly.
On North Kai's Planet, King Kai was secretly listening. When he heard Gohan mention Beerus stepping down, he nearly choked.
"Step down?"
Gohan nodded.
Piccolo crossed his arms. "Then why are you telling us this?"
"Because after Beerus awakens, he may come to Earth, and there's a possibility he could destroy it."
"Destroy Earth?"
Everyone's faces changed.
"Is he really that strong?" Goku asked with a grin.
"Very strong. Even stronger than Super Saiyan 4," Gohan answered.
Vegeta clenched his fists tightly.
He had not even reached Super Saiyan 3 yet, and now there was someone stronger than Super Saiyan 4.
For a brief moment, Vegeta felt the same helplessness he once felt against Frieza.
Goku, however, smiled.
"In that case, I'll train hard and reach Super Saiyan 4 within two years!"
"Goku!" Krillin exclaimed.
Those who grew up with him knew that this optimism in the face of powerful enemies was exactly why he kept surpassing his limits.
A strong heart was just as important as strength itself.
Vegeta's fighting spirit reignited.
"Kakarot, I'll reach Super Saiyan 4 before you!"
Goku laughed. "We'll see!"
Krillin and the others smiled bitterly. No matter how hard they trained, they could not catch up to the Saiyans anymore.
Soon, everyone left Goku's house.
With a clear goal ahead, Goku and Vegeta began training even more intensely.
That afternoon, Gohan brought Aracki to Bulma's house.
"Gohan!" Bulma greeted him.
"Where's Uncle Vegeta?" Gohan asked.
"He's in the Gravity Chamber. I'll call him."
Moments later, Vegeta stepped out.
"What do you want, Gohan?"
"I'm here to help you grow stronger."
"Stronger?"
"I'll have Aracki use Black Magic to stimulate your hidden potential."
Besides possession, Aracki's Black Magic could draw out a person's latent power.
"Black Magic?" Vegeta frowned.
Gohan nodded. "Aracki, begin."
"Yes, Master."
Aracki formed a dark sphere of energy and chanted an incantation, sending it into Vegeta's body.
Vegeta screamed as he was pulled into an illusion.
Inside, he faced an evil version of himself.
Bulma rushed in after hearing the scream.
"Gohan, what's happening?"
"It's fine, Aunt Bulma. I'm just helping him unlock his potential."
"There won't be any danger, right?"
"Don't worry."
After a while, Vegeta was defeated by his evil self. His body erupted with powerful energy as he nearly lost control.
"Release it," Gohan said calmly.
Aracki chanted again, and Vegeta regained consciousness.
"Gohan!"
"If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving," Gohan said.
"Wait," Vegeta stopped him. "I lost. Let me fight him again."
Gohan looked at Aracki.
"No problem, Master," Aracki replied.
Vegeta entered the illusion again and lost once more.
"Again!" Vegeta growled.
On the third attempt, after enduring repeated defeat, Vegeta finally overcame his evil self.
Two years passed in the blink of an eye.
Gohan's base battle power reached 8.5 trillion.
He and Videl had graduated and officially registered their marriage.
On Mount Paozu, Gohan sat cross-legged on the grass, meditating.
Suddenly, a familiar energy approached.
He opened his eyes. "Uncle Piccolo."
Piccolo nodded seriously.
Meanwhile, in Universe 7, on the God of Destruction's Planet.
Inside a grand purple palace shaped like a towering tree, a purple, cat-like being lay asleep on a floating rock.
This was Beerus.
Around him floated several large stone clocks.
Boom!
One of the clocks suddenly shattered.
Moments later, the others exploded one by one.
Beerus rolled lazily across the floating rocks before landing on one close to the ground.
At that moment, a tall blue-skinned figure entered.
It was Whis.
"Lord Beerus, it is time to wake up," Whis said politely.
Beerus slowly opened his eyes and dropped to the ground with a yawn.
"If you're so sleepy, why wake up now?" Whis asked gently.
Beerus stretched.
"Because I had a prophetic dream."
"A prophetic dream?"
"Yes. I dreamed of fighting a very powerful opponent. According to the dream, he should appear around this time."
