The path back to the cottage was tinged with the faint gold of the afternoon. Ashrik walked beside Lucille, his steps unhurried. His mood had certainly turned lighter than the past few days.
"So," he said casually, glancing at her. A smile tugged on his lips. "This housewarming party. Let me guess. Hazel's idea?"
She burst out laughing, the sound bright and unrestrained. Her eyes shone as she looked at him. "Hehe, is it that obvious?"
"Really obvious. She has a talent for turning things into celebration," Ashrik chuckled, helplessness flashing across his face. "And for dragging everyone along with her."
"She did suggest it," Lucille admitted, eyes crinkling. "Everyone agreed. Actually, they want to celebrate your advancement. That's the real reason. Also, it's nice to welcome Kevin too."
Ashrik lifted his brows, his smile softened in the next breath. "Even though you all started preparing before I actually succeeded, huh? I guess you guys started right after we left."
