The silence after Julian's words felt heavier than anything that came before.
Something just changed.
Scarlett stood still, her pulse tightening in her chest as she searched his face. The warmth from moments ago was gone. Replaced. Locked away behind that familiar wall.
"Tell me," she said, her voice quieter now, but firm.
Julian did not answer immediately.
He moved instead.
Crossing the room toward his desk, his steps measured, controlled, like he was already recalculating everything in his head.
Scarlett followed him with her eyes.
"Julian."
He stopped.
His back still to her.
Then slowly, he turned.
"There is a leak."
The words landed flat.
But the meaning behind them was anything but.
Scarlett frowned slightly. "A leak… about what?"
Julian's gaze held hers, sharp now.
"About us."
Everything inside Scarlett stilled.
