Chapter 92: The Space Between Holding On and Letting Go
The distance returned.
Not completely. Not in the way it used to be, cold and absolute. But enough to be felt.
Enough to be noticed.
Scarlett did not realize it at first.
It started subtly. Julian spoke less when it was not necessary. His presence on set remained consistent, but his interactions became strictly professional again. Measured. Controlled. Predictable.
Too predictable.
And that was how she knew.
He was pulling back.
Not because he did not feel it.
But because he did.
Amanda noticed it before Scarlett said anything.
"Okay… something is off," Amanda whispered as they sat in the makeup room.
Scarlett kept her eyes on her reflection. "What do you mean?"
Amanda crossed her arms. "You tell me. You and Boss Julian are back to acting like distant coworkers who barely tolerate each other."
Scarlett forced a small smile. "Maybe that is what we are supposed to be."
