Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 – The Justice League’s First Battle

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Colossus gave Wolverine a brief glance. Logan sighed heavily and muttered under his breath, "Damn it… I can feel pain, you know."

Colossus ignored the complaint. His body instantly transformed into shining organic steel, his metallic skin reflecting the lights of the city skyline. Without hesitation, he grabbed Wolverine by the arm, took one powerful step forward, and leapt directly off the eight-story rooftop.

The two figures plummeted downward like falling meteors.

Above the battlefield, Storm's eyes turned completely white as her power surged. Winds began swirling violently through the streets, and thick clouds formed overhead in an instant.

A dense white mist rolled across the battlefield, enveloping Abomination. Within the clouds, flashes of lightning flickered ominously.

At the same time, inside a military helicopter circling above the city, Bruce Banner sat across from General Ross and Betty. A small television monitor inside the cabin displayed live footage of the disaster unfolding below.

Banner stared at the screen in silence.

People were running through the streets in terror. Buildings were collapsing. Cars were being thrown like toys as the monstrous creature rampaged through the city.

His expression darkened.

Across from him, General Ross looked completely stunned.

Nearly all of his ground forces had already been wiped out. Calls from the Pentagon and the White House were flooding his communication channels, but Ross didn't dare answer them.

He could already feel his military career collapsing.

Banner slowly clenched his fists.

Then he turned toward Betty.

His voice was quiet but filled with sorrow.

"I have to go."

Betty's eyes widened in panic.

"You need to think about this carefully," she said, grabbing his arm tightly. "You don't even know if you can transform anymore."

Banner lowered his head slightly.

"I have to try."

His voice trembled.

"I'm sorry, Betty. I'm so sorry."

Meanwhile, Ethan Voss briefly noticed something falling from the sky.

It flashed past his field of vision so quickly that he couldn't even identify what it was before it disappeared between the buildings.

Thousands of miles away, deep beneath the White House, the president and a group of senior officials were watching the disaster through live broadcast feeds.

The underground command room was tense.

When the president saw Abomination tearing through the streets of New York, his expression darkened instantly.

Standing beside him, the military representative looked even more uneasy. At that moment, he practically wished he could strangle General Ross with his bare hands.

Homeland Security Secretary Trask had already contacted Iron Man.

Unfortunately, Tony Stark was currently outside New York and still traveling back.

He wasn't there yet.

The president slammed his hand against the table.

"Who can stop him?"

His voice echoed through the command room.

"Pentagon. CIA. FBI. Department of Homeland Security!"

He glared at the officials in front of him.

"Tell me—who can stop that thing?"

No one answered.

The president's anger erupted.

"This is how you protect America?"

"You can't even produce a workable plan?"

"Do you know how much money the federal government spends every year supporting your agencies?"

Finally, the military representative spoke hesitantly.

"Mr. President… we could use missiles."

He barely finished speaking before the president's glare froze him in place.

"Launch missiles into New York City?"

"Have you completely lost your mind?"

The official quickly tried another idea.

"We could deploy Delta Force immediately and bring in the National Guard to evacuate civilians."

The president shook his head.

"By the time they reach the battlefield, New York will already be in ruins."

Another voice suggested desperately, "What about New York's emergency response teams? Let them take control of the situation."

The room descended into chaotic arguments.

Then suddenly, the image on the television screen changed.

A towering metallic figure appeared on the broadcast.

The president blinked in surprise.

Iron Man?

But the armor looked different.

At that moment, millions of viewers across the United States saw the same thing.

On their television screens appeared a silver-white giant resembling Iron Man—alongside a muscular man with wild hair and gleaming metal claws.

The two figures charged straight toward the yellow monster.

Colossus reached the battlefield first. With a thunderous impact, he slammed into Abomination and forced the monster onto the ground.

Wolverine followed immediately behind.

He leapt forward with terrifying speed, his adamantium claws stabbing deep into Abomination's ribs.

The yellow-skinned monster released a deafening roar.

But Abomination's strength was overwhelming.

With a violent surge of power, he flung both Wolverine and Colossus away like rag dolls.

The wounds in his body barely slowed him down. Blood seeped out briefly before the flesh began healing almost immediately.

Abomination roared toward the sky.

Just as he prepared to chase Wolverine, a brilliant bolt of lightning crashed down from the clouds.

The enormous current surged through his body, forcing him to stumble and drop to one knee.

Storm's attack had struck perfectly.

But the assault didn't stop there.

Colossus seized the opportunity. He leapt forward from behind and pinned the monster to the ground again while Wolverine lunged back into the fight.

At that moment, Ethan, Jean Grey, and Professor Xavier arrived nearby.

Ethan wore a white mask covering the upper half of his face. He had no intention of revealing his identity too early.

"Professor," he said quickly, "this is our chance."

Charles nodded immediately.

He closed his eyes and focused his mind.

A massive surge of psychic energy exploded outward from his consciousness like a tidal wave, crashing directly into Abomination's mind.

Inside the monster's chaotic thoughts, the effect was immediate.

The endless rage and despair suddenly collapsed into silence.

For a brief moment, his mind became completely blank.

Wolverine felt the creature beneath him suddenly freeze.

"It's working!" he shouted. "Keep going!"

Whether it was Wolverine's voice that triggered it or something else entirely, Abomination suddenly regained movement.

With a burst of strength, he threw both Wolverine and Colossus off his back.

Then he charged directly toward Ethan and the others.

Ethan stepped forward and spoke quickly.

"You'd better hurry, Professor. I can't hold him off."

That wasn't entirely true.

Within a few dozen centimeters of his body, Ethan's psychic power was overwhelmingly destructive. Anything entering that range could be crushed into dust almost instantly.

But revealing that ability now would serve no purpose.

Abomination's massive body crashed forward with terrifying force.

Professor Xavier launched another psychic attack, but the monster managed to resist.

At that moment, several more lightning bolts flashed across the sky.

Storm's power struck Abomination repeatedly, leaving dark scorch marks across his body.

Seizing the moment, Professor Xavier unleashed two powerful mental shocks in rapid succession.

Abomination's body froze.

Then he collapsed unconscious.

Jean Grey let out a long breath.

"What kind of monster is that?" she asked softly. "How can something be that strong?"

Before Ethan could answer, another roar echoed through the city.

Everyone turned.

Between the distant skyscrapers, a massive green figure leapt into view and crashed onto the street not far away.

The X-Men immediately shifted into combat stances.

Wolverine frowned.

"When did this world suddenly fill up with monsters?"

Ethan already knew the answer.

The Hulk had arrived.

He raised a hand quickly to stop the others.

"Don't attack."

Then he stepped forward slowly.

"Hulk!" he shouted.

"The threat has already been contained. You don't need to fight."

In truth, the Hulk looked just as confused as everyone else.

Banner had jumped from the helicopter hoping to transform and confront Abomination.

But by the time he arrived…

The battle was already over.

Ethan smiled faintly and extended his hand toward the massive green figure.

"Big guy," he said calmly, "the sun's about to set."

The Hulk stared at him blankly.

His massive brain clearly couldn't process everything happening around him.

After a moment, he simply roared and charged forward.

Ethan rolled his eyes.

Of course.

As expected, only that woman could calm him down.

He quickly stepped backward while shouting, "Professor, help me!"

A wave of invisible psychic energy swept forward from behind him.

The Hulk suddenly froze mid-stride.

In the distance, General Ross's helicopter landed on the street. The cabin door opened, and Betty jumped out first.

Ethan raised an eyebrow.

Interesting.

She apparently possessed her own unique ability to calm the Hulk.

Hearing Betty's voice, the Hulk's expression shifted.

Whether confused or partially conscious, he glanced at her briefly.

Then he roared again.

With a massive leap, he disappeared between the skyscrapers.

Professor Xavier lowered his head slowly.

Sweat covered his face as he released a long breath.

Around them, Colossus, Jean Grey, and Wolverine gradually relaxed their stances.

Then General Ross walked forward.

He stared at the well-dressed man wearing the white mask.

Even with the mask, Ross immediately recognized him.

"Theodore Voss?"

"What are you doing here?"

Ethan turned toward him calmly.

"I'm cleaning up your mess, General Ross."

Ross's face turned red with anger.

"How dare you speak to me like that?"

Ethan simply shrugged.

"You should probably focus on explaining this disaster to the Pentagon and the White House."

Ross wanted to take Abomination into military custody.

But Ethan had already called the White House.

With the president's enthusiastic approval, Ethan received authority to detain the monster.

Ross had no choice but to leave quietly.

Still, Ethan knew Ross had powerful allies within the military.

Their paths would probably cross again.

Under Ethan's command, Frank soon arrived with a squad of enhanced soldiers.

They sealed Abomination's massive body inside a reinforced steel container and transported it directly to the underground prison.

There was only one small twist to the entire operation.

Tony Stark had woken up early that morning.

But he arrived late.

He had been notified about the battle almost immediately, yet by the time he finally reached New York…

Everything was already over.

Standing above the empty streets, Iron Man cursed loudly before turning around and flying away.

He still had work waiting for him.
