(Third Person POV)
After the Shirakumo day, Kai started working on his new Cloud Breathing, it's derivative from Wind Breathing, it has its sharpness but thanks to it being a form using a staff, the lethality has been reduced.
He and Lukas were also torn apart in different classrooms to prevent any "incidents" which has worked, somewhat, the days passed and Kai was watching some TV before his father arrived from work.
"Hi dad, how was work?" Kai.
"It was good, but that's not important right now, bring your mother." Masaru.
Kai did as he was told and called his mother from the bedroom, who was sewing some old clothes.
"Dear family, I have some good news, what do you think I have in this box?" Masaru asked in a mysterious tone.
"Fried Chicken?" Kai.
"No, better." Masaru.
"My lost pendant?" Kaia.
"Better." Masaru's smile widened.
"A puppy!" Kai's eyes were lit; he really wanted a puppy.
"It isn't a living being and it's better!" Masaru smiled as his excitement was barely being contained.
Kaia and Kai looked at each other and shrugged.
"What is it?" Kaia.
"Ok, ok, in front of my workplace is this little lottery with all sorts of prices, I found 5.000 Yen on the floor today and decided to try it just to test my luck a little and I won this!" Masaru opened the box.
Inside were two plane tickets with a clear name on them I-Island.
"We're going to I-Island! The most advanced artificial island in the whole country!" Masaru oozed with excitement.
I-Island, one of the greatest places in Japan, a completely artificial and mostly built from iron. However, the island comes complete with three different cities separated by large bodies of water and natural foliage, a fourth one currently under construction.
There are beautiful beaches, great lakes, and incredible cities to be explored. The island has a residential district, a business district, and schools. Not just that but also that it's the epitome of scientist breakthroughs regarding Quirk research.
It all happened a few years ago when David Shield decided to retire as All-Might's sidekick after he returned to Japan and focused solely on Quirk researching and gadget engineering. To put it in other words, it was Egghead Island from One Piece before Egghead was announced, yet less cool, still cool though.
"Wait, you only have 2 tickets though." Kaia looked unsure.
"Oh, don't worry about that, turns out, my boss needed someone to deliver some documents to one of the companies there to make some connections, so technically, I'll be flying for free." Masaru explained.
'Extremely convenient.' Kai couldn't help but to think.
"Oh, this is great! All three of us having a little vacation~ it's been too long." Kaia was delighted about the idea of the three of them going on a trip.
"When do we leave?" Kai asked his father.
"Next week Tuesday." Masaru.
Kai nodded as he had starry eyes.
'A sci-fi island with a lot of different gadgets, I'm excited!' Kai was filled to the brim with excitement at the thought of what he'll see in I-Island.
"Alright, family, let's not get too crazy, a week's a long time and we'll take this time to rest properly." Masaru announced.
Suddenly, a thought crossed Kaia's mind. "What about Kai's schoolwork? He can't just miss it." Kaia looked at Kai with some concern.
"Ooh! I know!" Kai raised his hand and his parents looked at him. "We have to do an essay about some place in Japan, if I use I-Island as the place, I'll do my essay about, the teachers might let me go scot-free." Kai explained his masterplan.
"Well, if your teachers give you the green light then yeah, we'll go, if not then I guess this wasn't meant to be." Masaru.
"YOSHAAAAA!" Kai celebrated before going to his room.
Masaru and Kaia snickered behind with smiles in their faces.
"Honestly, one second he's planning ahead like some mature adult and the other he goes back to being a normal kid, are we sure his Quirk isn't something like high maturity?" Masaru joked as he sat on the couch with his computer.
"Well, Kai-kun has always been special, there's something about him that always make me smile." Kaia starts preparing some tea for herself and a coffee for Masaru. "Besides, it's not like that's a bad thing, he has friends, he's a good kid and is cheerful, I don't have any complaints from my part." Kaia starts boiling some water and prepares the tea packet and coffee grounds.
"Neither here, it's just something I think about every now and then, like how fast he accepted not having a Quirk or how maturely he took the discipline of training to become a hero…it's this odd feeling I have." Masaru started typing some words.
"But you don't dislike it, do you?" Kaia smiled as she poured the hot water in the cups.
"Nope, I love our Kai however he's like. I just wish I could help him more." Masaru took some seconds off typing and shifted his attention to one of his documents.
"By the way, what's this work of yours this time? Like, specifically, just delivering or is there more to it?" Kaia asks Masaru as she places the cups on top of coasters.
"Nothing much, just deliver some blueprints for a prototype engine that's supposed to work 10% more efficiently while consuming 15% less fuel as part of our new partnership with one of the companies there." Masaru.
Daimon Masaru works as a Design Engineer, they create and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and 3D CAD models, defining the exact dimensions, materials, tolerances, and assembly methods needed to build a component and or systems.
They analyze designs to ensure they will work under real-world conditions, checking factors such as strength, heat, vibration, wear, and efficiency using calculations, simulations, and engineering standards. Design engineers review and refine prototypes, identify potential flaws or failure points before manufacturing, and modify designs to improve performance, reliability, safety, or cost.
Masaru got lucky and just has to deliver the blueprints to start the testing of the product. Oh, while on the subjects about work, Kaia is just a housewife with an expertise in sewing and knitting.
"Just that? I thought it was going to be something harder, at least we can now spend some more time together as a family." Kaia.
"I told you, it's been a lucky day for me~ all that's left is for us to plan it out." Masaru smiled as he took a sip from his coffee.
"Good things will only keep happening, what's the company called?" Kaia took a sip of tea.
"Oh, it's not a company, to be more specific we're working on a partnership with I-Island's engineering labs." Masaru remembered the odd name.
(A week later.)
The family was in the airport with all their luggage; they were completely ready to start their vacation.
"Kai-kun, traveling through airplane can seem scary but it's just a little different than train." Kaia started patting Kai's head.
"Yeah, it will be amazing champ, you'll see how high we'll go, and the seats are comfier than they look, also, if you start feeling weird or nauseous just tell us and we'll give you some bubblegum." Masaru.
"I'm still amazed that we managed to book our flight with all three seats, some families aren't that lucky." Kaia.
"The prize allowed us to select our seats so…yeah, it wasn't much of a shocker." Masaru.
"I didn't know that. You left me out of the loop on purpose, didn't you?" Kaia looked suspiciously at Masaru.
"Who? Me? No~ how could I do something so dastardly~?" Masaru teased his wife as he feigned ignorance.
"I can't wait to get there! There'll be heroes and gadgets and, and, Oh! What if there's a lightsaber?!" Kai jumped in place excited.
Kaia and Masaru snickered before grabbing Kai's hand as the announcement was given.
"That's our plane Kai, let's go." Masaru.
"We'll have lots of fun while we stay there, ok?" Kaia.
"Yay!!!~" Kai cheered as he entered the plane.
While on the plane, everyone was sleeping at the late hours, but Kai was still wide awake enjoying the view.
'Ah~ this is nice, enjoying a calm flight, expecting a relaxing but mostly cool vacation, that report I no longer have ChatGPT to do for me…yeah, the only downside is that I won't be able to train here but might as well, a good rest every now and then won't hurt me.' Kai thought before looking at the sleeping figures of his parents.
As he stared up to his parents, a thought crossed his mind. 'What's my role here?' Kai thought.
He's unaware of the plot of the story, that's clear, however, he IS part of a story nonetheless, characters are favored by the script and the author, whoever is the "Main Protagonist" will most likely be the next #1 Hero.
'Well, I guess I'll just have to show him or her what the Demon Slayer Corps has to offer, hope that person doesn't disappoint.' Kai smiled as he took an eye-mask out and covered his eyes to sleep.
(Hours later)
After hours of traveling, the family arrived at the acclaimed destination and there was only one word Kai could come up with about it: AWESOME!
I mean, to them, the entire place was basically a 24/7 amusement park that NEVER closes, there were heroes, entertainers and since I-Island is considered a "quirk-free use" zone, most people around used their quirks, with caution of course.
"This place is amazing, I didn't think it would be THIS big." Masaru commented as he looked around.
"Should we deliver your work first or should we book at the hotel first?" Kaia asked her husband.
"The hotel, it's best for all of us if we can secure our rooms, lest something unexpected happens." Masaru explained.
And so, they did, it was a simple hotel near the southern exterior of the island, of course, "simple" in this context is equivalent to a 2-star hotel, I know, it's crazy.
But then again, if an island is going to be this exaggeratedly big, might as well have the quality to back it up.
The entire room was a treasure on its own, the bathroom had a shower and a bathtub, several products for skincare and haircare. It had a mini-fridge filled with several juice bottles and water, the phone to order room service, and a TV with international cable.
"Alright family, listen up!" Masaru announced.
Kaia and Kai looked at him.
"Here's what's gonna happen: Step 1, deliver the goods. Step 2, enjoy the rest of this vacation!" Masaru announced.
"Yeah!" Kai cheered.
"What about Kai's homework?" Kaia commented.
Kai immediately froze at the comment.
"I mean, this is good and all but I'd feel bad if he had lied to his teachers." Kaia.
Kai was about to argue with that flawless logic when his father stepped in.
"Kaia, my love, dear, Kai's essay is about I-Island, right? Then how will he write about it without experiencing it first?" Masaru.
"Oh, right. In that case let me reapply my makeup real quick." Kaia went to the bathroom.
"Thanks dad." Kai.
"No worries champ, oh and FYI, I have an essay right here." Masaru pulled a folder from his inner pocket and smirked at Kai.
"How?" Kai asked in a whispered excited voice.
"Well, I did it just for you to enjoy this vacation, no homework allowed in I-Island." Masaru smiled.
"But aren't you here technically for work?" Kai.
"Yeah, but I get paid for it." Masaru pulled down his glasses before looking for a place to hide the folder.
After a few more minutes, the group finally left to explore the island.
"We've been getting a lot of luck lately, first this trip, then your business travel, and now the call from your boss to deliver the schematics in tomorrow's night gala." Kaia happily commented.
"I like to think this is Life's way of rewarding me for all my effort, not that I needed any reward with such a lovely woman like yourself by my side~" Masaru.
Oh dear~" Kaia blushed at Masaru's comment.
The two embraced each other as their minds muted the outside, or so they thought because...
"EHERM…!" Someone interrupted them.
The adults saw their son looking unamused and ready to pout as he glared at them.
"We have to go to the amusement park! You promised we'd be the first to be on the spinning teacups." Kai complained.
'It's amazing how even though I love my parents with all my might, this still weirds me out.' Kai thought as he shuddered imagining his parents kissing.
Masaru and Kaia took some space between each other before brushing their clothes in embarrassment.
"*COUGH* Yeah, let's go!" Masaru commented as Kai grabbed his parents' hands and together ran towards the park.
Kai, however, was thinking something else.
'Someone's been following us since we left the hotel…I hope its just me being paranoid.' Kai thought.
In the alley 100m away from the family, a figure emerges from the shadows.
