Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 — Absence

Aren sat alone in his demon-noble bedroom.

Dark curtains.Black crystals glowing faintly. The distant roars of beasts beyond the walls.

He wasn't resting.

He was planning.

On his desk lay:

• A list of Mimi's habits• Notes on demon psychology• Records of the Demon King's past• And the Headmistress' warning—

A demon girl, once she gives her heart, gives it entirely.

Aren closed the book.

He understood exactly what needed to be done.

Not to win love. Not to become a demon prince.

But to protect a girl whose death would ignite a world-ending war.

To do that…

He first had to make her feel something she had never felt before.

Absence.

Mimi's Morning 🌙

Deep inside the Demon Academy—

Mimi, daughter of the Demon King, one of the strongest first-years…

…woke up feeling wrong.

Like something was missing.

She stared at herself in the mirror.

Her heartbeat was uneven. Her eyes restless. Her hair messy despite perfect sleep.

"Ugh… what is this?" 😖

Her friend Drago tilted his head.

"You sick?"

"No."

"Poisoned?"

"No."

"…Love?"

Mimi punched him so hard he flew into the wall. 💥

But she didn't deny it.

Because this feeling wasn't poison.Wasn't magic.Wasn't sickness.

It was the absence of someone she didn't even know she needed yet.

Someone she saw fighting alone.Bleeding alone.Walking as if nothing in the world could break him.

The giant demon noble who crushed seventy-five bullies without blinking.

The boy the Academy whispered about.

Aren.

Aren… who reminded her of her father.

Lunchtime 🍽️

The cafeteria roared with chaos.

Demons shouting.Dragonborn clashing horns.Succubi gossiping.Ogres arguing over pickles.

Mimi's table was the usual:

Deadly Sin heirs.Princes.Princesses.Demon nobles.Drago scratching his nose.

But Mimi wasn't eating.

She was searching.

Her eyes scanned the room.

Then—

"There."

A huge figure sat in the far corner.Last bench.Alone.

Bandaged arms.Fresh bruises.Quiet eyes.

Aren.

Her heart thumped. 💓

She stood up without realizing it.

The entire cafeteria froze.

"Princess Mimi…?""She's moving…?""She's walking toward HIM?!"

Even the Deadly Sin heirs stopped talking.

Drago whispered:

"Welp. He's dead." 😨

Mimi Approaches Aren 👁️🔥

Aren continued eating.

Not fast.Not slow.Just… existing.

Mimi stopped in front of him.

She opened her mouth—

And nothing came out.

Because Aren finally looked at her.

Calm.Unshaken.Cold.

Her throat tightened.

"What do you want?" he asked.

Her heart skipped.

"I… um… I wanted to talk."

Aren stared at her.

Mimi felt like she was being dissected piece by piece.

Then—

He looked away and kept eating.

Mimi nearly stumbled back.

"W-Why are you ignoring me!?" 😠

Aren answered without lifting his head:

"Because you came here unsure of what you want."

Her breath caught.

He continued calmly:

"You feel something missing. You don't understand it.So you came to me to fill that space."

Her chest tightened painfully.

Aren stood and walked past her.

Close enough that she felt his heat.Close enough that her tail curled on its own.

He whispered:

"Figure out what you want…then come to me."

And he walked away.

Leaving the Demon King's daughter frozen in the middle of the cafeteria.

Academy Reaction 💥😱

"HE IGNORED HER?!""FROM MIMI?!""IS HE INSANE!?""THIS IS DARK ROMANCE!""NO—THIS IS SUICIDE!"

Drago sighed.

"She's gone. Completely gone."

The Deadly Sin heirs smirked.

"…Interesting."

Mimi stood still, cheeks burning.

"He said… come to him… when I know."

She pressed a hand to her chest.

"I… want to know." ❤️‍🔥

Two Weeks of Silence ⏳

Back at the demon manor—

Aren removed his jacket, scars exposed.

Hawk watched quietly.

"Master… rumors are spreading."

"No need," Aren replied.

Two weeks passed.

Aren stayed inside the estate, bones slowly repairing.Bandages. Splints. Bruises.

He looked like someone crushed by a mountain and refused to die.

Meanwhile—

Mimi couldn't focus.

Her quill didn't move. Her book stayed open to the same page.

Her friends whispered:

"Princess, are you okay?"

She didn't answer.

Her mind replayed one image—

A blood-covered giant walking away after destroying sixteen opponents alone.

Cold.Unyielding.Lonely.

Something about him felt… warm.

Something felt missing.

A Daughter's Question 🌹

That night, Mimi sat beside her mother in the royal garden.

"Mama… how did you meet Father?"

Her mother smiled softly.

"He fought every day.Broke bones.Never smiled.Angry at the world."

Mimi whispered:

"…Just like Aren."

Her mother blinked.

"Aren?"

"N-No—just someone like that."

Her mother continued:

"But when I entered his life… he softened. He fought only to protect."

Mimi's heart squeezed.

"So… a girl changed him?"

"Yes," her mother said gently."A man's heart softens when he finds the right one."

Mimi froze.

Her thoughts returned to Aren.

Bloodied.Silent.Strong.

Just like the father she admired.

Aren's Resolve 🩸🧠

Back at the manor, Aren opened his eyes.

Hawk whispered:

"Master… you scare even nobles."

Aren's lips twitched.

Not a smile.

But close.

Time to return, he thought.Absence has done its work.

Return 🌑🔥

The cafeteria buzzed again.

Mimi sat alone.

Food untouched.

"…Why does it feel like someone is missing?" 💔

She looked at the far corner.

The last bench.

Empty.

Her heart raced.

"…Where is he?"

A shadow fell across the entrance.

A giant walked in.

Bandages on his shoulders.Scars visible.Cold eyes scanning the room.

Aren had returned.

Mimi's breath caught.

Her heart whispered—

Found you. 💓
