Chapter 56 - Chapter 56

Pov Narrator.

He ran a hand over his face, rubbing his eyes lazily; he really had no interest in attending, he wasn't very sociable and besides he had already planned to jerk off using Agito.

No, that was a lie, he didn't have any plan, he was simply too lazy to go.

"Look, man, I'm not sure about going, since honestly I'm extremely lazy and today I had a somewhat busy day, but give me the address of the place."

Isagi moved away from the wall, walking through the kitchen looking for paper and a pencil, opening drawers without much hurry.

"I'm not guaranteeing I'll go, but who knows, maybe I'll drop by just to eat the food, it's just that I'm a real freeloader."

Isagi smiled without any shame, with complete audacity, while writing on a piece of paper the address and the name of the place, along with the food establishment where the meeting was going to be, noting it down with quick and somewhat messy handwriting.

On the other side, Aki sighed and, with nothing else to say, ended the call. Isagi put the phone back in its place and the pencil next to the paper, letting out another small sigh while the silence filled the house again. He looked at the time; there were still 2 hours left before that meeting started.

"Well, just in case I'll take a shower and bring out the forbidden outfit… and my best perfume." Said Isagi while going up the stairs to use the bathroom upstairs, stretching his arms a little on the way. "I have to look the highest quality, dog… those 35 arms will show who's boss."

Isagi walked in the direction of the meeting place, with a relaxed pace and without hurry. He had decided not to use his typical sea urchin hairstyle; instead, he opted for something more personal, looser, letting his hair fall naturally over his forehead and sides. It was still spiky, but no longer in all directions, giving him a more carefree and, in a way, more mature air.

He had put on clothes a little more modern for the current era, mostly green in color, combining tones that stood out without being too flashy.

He kept his hands in his pockets as he walked, feeling like the most handsome person in the place without needing confirmation.

"I hope this is the place… I already entered like 5 different places." Said Isagi as he stopped in front of a food place, looking at the sign with slight doubt.

The smell of different dishes, laughter and the clinking of glasses reached his ears from inside, creating a lively atmosphere. Throwing away the gum he had been chewing, he crushed it against the ground before entering the place calmly, pushing the door without hurry.

He analyzed the place with a quick but attentive look, scanning tables, faces and movements, until his sight stopped on his companions and on other people he didn't even remember, faces that simply had no importance to him.

Isagi advanced with calm steps, as if the environment didn't affect him in the slightest; if he had a pair of headphones and was listening to music, it would have been even better. As he approached the table, he raised his hand in greeting, without saying much.

Power monopolized all the fried chicken, devouring it without shame; Denji ate his food happily, completely focused on his own thing; Himeno drank just like Aki, both already with some alcohol in their system; Kobeni ate calmly, with a slight expression of excitement on her face. The others… meant nothing to Isagi.

Isagi noticed that Makima had also already arrived and was drinking a pitcher of beer as if it were water, bringing it to her lips completely naturally, without changing her expression in the slightest thanks to having a high alcohol tolerance.

Her calm, almost empty gaze contrasted with the noisy atmosphere around her. Apparently, Isagi had been the last to arrive.

"Ahhh! Isagi, you came! Hehehehe, that new look suits you well, more handsome~." Said Himeno with a wide smile and a slight blush from the alcohol, leaning slightly on the table; it was clear she was already drunk, her voice looser than usual.

"Yeah, I had nothing better to do, so I came to waste time here." Said Isagi with a slight shrug, letting everyone interpret whether it was a compliment or an insult. "Looks like there's no seat for me." His eyes wandered around the table, noticing that all the places were already occupied, some even invaded by plates and bottles.

"Oops, that sucks, you'll have to sit at another table." Said Denji with a mocking smile, still chewing, to which Isagi only rolled his eyes.

"How childish you are, Denji. The fact that I'm not at the same table won't make you more attractive to women; someone who's ugly is ugly, and your face won't change just because I'm not here." Said Isagi calmly with a slight crooked smile, clearly enjoying the moment; the change of look was already affecting him.

"Hahahahaha!"

Power laughed while slamming the table hard, making the plates vibrate, completely amused; even she had understood that Denji had practically been called a woman repellent.

Denji growled, frowning with obvious annoyance. He hated when Isagi spoke like that, using words that sounded intelligent to insult him twice in a single sentence, indirectly leaving him like a complete idiot… although, being honest, he already was.

"But I guess you're right." Said Isagi walking toward another table near theirs, with his hands in his pockets and a relaxed expression. "I'll sit at another table instead, I won't have to mix with your mediocre aesthetic."

He smiled as he said that, with a carefree air; today he was in a very good mood and nothing seemed capable of ruining it.

But Isagi didn't walk far, since Makima stopped him… or rather, called him, leaving the empty pitcher on the table with a faint dry sound.

"It's a welcome for you rookies." Sliding a little to create space between her and the edge of the table, Makima continued, her voice calm but firm. "Come, sit here with me." She invited him, pointing to the small space she had made.

That made Denji stop eating abruptly, his eyes widening as a spark of envy began to burn in his gaze upon seeing Isagi receive that invitation.

But Aki intervened almost immediately, slightly turning his head toward Makima.

"But Miss Makima, there's no space here anymore, he'll be very close to you." He tried to make her reconsider, with a respectful tone but clearly uncomfortable with the idea.

Makima simply shook her head gently, without losing her calm.

"It doesn't make sense to leave him apart from us if this is a party for them, besides I don't mind him being that close to me, I know Isagi is respectful." She said with a small and soft smile, one that seemed enough to end the discussion and calm any tension at the table.

Isagi looked at the space for a few seconds, evaluating it without much interest. He didn't think about it much, so he simply took a seat, ending up very close to Makima, enough for their arms to lightly brush with each small movement.

Neither of them seemed to care about the closeness, as if it were something completely natural.

Isagi rested his chin on his hand and looked at Denji, giving him a slight mocking smile, raising his eyebrows several times in provocation, almost childish… and it worked, because Denji clenched his fist under the table, clearly annoyed.

"(Damn… you won this time, hedgehog head)." Thought Denji, with obvious envy as he saw how close he was to Makima.

"(Uh, look at how many dishes I've never tried in my life)." Thought Isagi as he took the menu and began to read it, flipping the pages with curiosity, observing names and combinations that were completely new to him.

At the same time, Makima looked at him from the corner of her eye while drinking her third pitcher of beer, bringing it to her lips with the same calm as always. She noticed something different in Isagi, again… once again she could feel that he had become more powerful. Also, his smell had changed, it had become a little stronger… and strangely pleasant. But also unknown.

Makima had never smelled something like that before, a mixture she couldn't fully identify. What she didn't know was that that smell came from the Zenin blood now awakened in Isagi's body, altering even his presence in a subtle way.

"(Again and again… every time something changes in him, what exactly is Isagi?)." She wondered while the liquid went down her throat, feeling how her attention toward Isagi slowly grew, in a silent but constant way.

The atmosphere remained lively, full of laughter, noise of plates and overlapping conversations. Power boasted about her "intelligence" in front of the other Devil Hunters, puffing out her chest with pride while talking nonstop, exaggerating every single thing she said.

Some of those present looked at her in surprise, not so much because of what she was saying, but because she was one of the few possessed capable of controlling her instincts to kill without losing her head in the process.

Isagi remained silent, just eating calmly, focused on his plate. He didn't drink any kind of alcohol, because he never liked those things; he didn't understand what was good about it if beer tasted horrible, at least to him. Instead, he had ordered an orange juice, taking small sips between bites.

After a small drinking competition between Aki, Himeno and Makima, the result was quite clear. Makima won, who still looked completely fresh, without the slightest sign of drunkenness, finishing another pitcher of beer as if it were nothing, while Aki and Himeno had their faces against the table, completely defeated, on the verge of falling asleep.

"Excuse me, another beer, please." Asked Makima to the waiter, slightly raising her hand, as if the previous one had not been enough.

"Your kidneys are going to rot, that's what my mom used to say." Said Isagi when he saw that Makima still wanted to drink more, resting his elbow on the table while watching her. "So, how much resistance do you have?"

Makima placed the empty pitcher on the table, which was already full of more empty pitchers after the competition, the accumulated glass forming a small orderly mess.

"It's not that difficult… let's say alcohol doesn't affect me in the same way." She replied with a slight smile, calm as always.

Isagi understood immediately what she meant. That resistance wasn't normal. It was because she was a demon. And to them… alcohol didn't affect them the same way.

Suddenly, Himeno, heavily, sat up lazily, leaning a bit over Denji, her body swaying slightly from the alcohol. Without saying a single word, she grabbed his cheeks with both hands, pulling him closer without giving him time to react, and closed the distance, pressing her lips against his in a sudden kiss.

"Oooo!"

Murmurs spread across the table upon seeing the scene, some surprised, others amused. Himeno wasn't shy; her tongue brushed against Denji's in a deep kiss, a French kiss, just as she had promised the day before, moving without any shame.

Denji, for his part, was completely dazzled. On one hand, the sensation made him blush slightly, his eyes half-closing while his mind completely clouded over. But on the other… Makima was there, his "love interest" watching him kiss someone else, which created a strange mixture of guilt and excitement.

"(Damn… Miss Makima is watching, but this feels good)." He thought.

"Hey, scoundrel, are those their tongues?" Asked Power, leaning forward with curiosity, watching the scene with absolutely no filter.

"No, those are their sanjinas." Replied Isagi with complete naturalness.

Even he didn't know what a sanjina was, he simply said the first stupid thing that came to his mind. Even so, he looked away, as if he already knew exactly what was coming.

And the inevitable happened. The trauma. Denji's first kiss turned out horrible, at first the kiss was perfect, with Himeno's experience and her attitude, she wasn't shy at all, the fact that she held him by the cheeks only deepened the kiss, her tongue searching for Denji's to tangle with his.

Showing a notable experience in her movements.

But she was still drunk, and her stomach full of alcohol and food couldn't take it anymore, Denji felt that the kiss became hotter, but not in the good sense when bitterness and a horrible taste hit his palate.

Vomit.

Himeno started vomiting into Denji's mouth, her body reacting without control. And Denji with his habit of swallowing everything that enters his mouth, swallowed the vomit.

The atmosphere fell into an awkward silence for a second before the reactions exploded. Laughter from some, Kobeni feeling like vomiting, Power laughing loudly.

Isagi, at that moment, seriously wondered if the Rewind Ability could rewind this moment from his mind, because he definitely wanted to forget it forever.

"(I wish I had the Men in Black neuralyzer)." He thought feeling just a little bit of pity for Denji since it was his first kiss, and it went very badly.
