Chapter 105 - Chapter 105: New Techniques, New Power

The dust from Sylveon's valiant stand had barely begun to drift toward the rafters when Julian sprinted onto the field. He knelt beside the fallen Fairy-type, gently checking her pulse. Seeing that she had simply succumbed to exhaustion and the massive impact of the final clash, Julian let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

"Hahaha! Don't look so worried, young man," Grandpa Aaron called out from across the arena, his voice regaining its warm, booming quality. "My Lucario knows the difference between a training match and a war. He held back just enough to ensure her spirit stayed intact, even if her stamina didn't."

"Thank you, Gym Leader," Julian said, his voice sincere. He carefully recalled Sylveon into her Poké Ball, whispering a quick "rest well" to the capsule before clipping it back to his belt.

He stood up, facing the bare-chested veteran and the blue-and-black titan that stood beside him. Lucario looked worn—his fur was matted with dust and his chest was heaving—but his eyes were still burning with that sharp, piercing Aura.

"What's the matter, Julian?" Aaron asked, crossing his massive arms. "The odds are three to one, and you're down to your last partner. Are you going to throw in the towel, or do we finish this?"

Julian closed his eyes for a moment. He thought about the long trek up the mountains, the specialized Pokéblocks they'd labored over in Solaceon, and the sheer trust his team had placed in him. When he opened his eyes, they weren't filled with doubt. They were filled with a cold, flickering fire.

"I don't like seeing them get hurt," Julian said, his voice echoing in the silent dojo. "But we didn't climb a mountain just to walk back down empty-handed. We don't give up until the final bell rings!"

He plucked the last Poké Ball from his belt and tossed it high into the air. "It's all on you, Floette! Let's show them the beauty of the storm!"

Pop!

In a burst of shimmering light, Floette appeared. She wasn't riding a common red flower today; she was clutching the stem of her specialized blue flower like a delicate parasol. She floated gracefully, her tiny eyes narrowing as she assessed the battered Lucario.

"Flo-ette! (I've been waiting for this! I'm going to win, Julian!)" 🌸

"Hahaha! Now that's the look I wanted to see!" Aaron roared, his fighting spirit reaching a new peak. "A tiny flower with the heart of a Lion! Lucario, don't let the fatigue slow you down! Bone Rush!"

"Lucario!" The jackal lunged. Even with the weighted bands on his wrists, his speed was blistering. He conjured a long, glowing energy staff and swung it in a massive overhead arc, aiming to smash the tiny Floette into the dirt.

"Dance, Floette! Petal Blizzard!" Julian commanded.

Floette didn't retreat. She held the blue flower above her head and began to spin it rapidly, like a high-speed propeller. As the flower whirled, the air around her became saturated with razor-sharp green leaves and vibrant pink petals. Within seconds, a miniature pink-and-green tornado had formed around her, creating a beautiful yet deadly barrier.

Petal Blizzard was a move Floette had been practicing during their travels through the Sinnoh wilderness. While she wasn't a physical powerhouse, the sheer volume of projectiles in this move compensated for her lack of raw muscle. It was a chaotic, wide-reaching storm.

Lucario's bone staff slammed into the whirlwind. Crack! The energy staff encountered hundreds of tiny, high-velocity resistances. The sharp leaves acted like a thousand tiny saws, grinding away at the energy staff until it literally shattered into glowing fragments before it could even reach Floette's head.

"Impressive defense! But we aren't done yet!" Aaron shouted, throwing a shadow-punch of his own. "Force Palm!"

Lucario didn't miss a beat. He discarded the hilt of his shattered staff and thrust his open palm into the center of the petal storm. A shockwave of blue Aura erupted, physically blowing the petals and leaves aside. The "storm" was torn apart, revealing Floette in the center, her vision momentarily obscured by the debris she had created.

"Now, Floette! Fairy Wind!" Julian seized the split-second opening.

"Flo-ette!" 🎀💨

As the Petal Blizzard was still fluttering down like colorful snow, Floette swung her blue flower in a wide arc. A gust of pink, magical wind roared forth, picking up the lingering petals and leaves and carrying them along with it. It wasn't just a wind; it was a colorful, abrasive battering ram that slammed into Lucario's chest before he could recover from his Force Palm.

Lucario skidded back, his feet digging into the dirt. He grunted in pain, the Fairy-type energy stinging his Aura-sensitive skin.

"Flashy," Aaron muttered, a competitive glint in his eye. "But flashy doesn't win in a dojo! Lucario, close the gap and use Power-Up Punch!"

Lucario's black paws glowed with a brownish-orange light. He surged forward, weaving through the air with a series of erratic leaps.

"Fly high, Floette! Then use Fairy Wind to push him back!"

Floette darted upward, but Lucario was a master of the arena. He used his momentum to kick off the side of a wooden pillar, launching himself high into the air above Floette. He brought his glowing fist down like a hammer.

BAM!

The Power-Up Punch hit Floette squarely, sending her hurtling back down to the ground. She hit the dirt with a soft thud, a cloud of dust rising around her. As the hit connected, a faint white aura flickered around Lucario—the effect of the move increasing his physical attack power.

"Don't let her breathe! Force Palm into the dust!" Aaron pushed.

"Floette, get up! Spinning Petal Blizzard!" Julian yelled, his voice desperate.

A blue pulse of energy shot from Lucario's hand toward the center of the dust cloud. But just as it was about to hit, the dust was violently blown away by a new, tighter vortex of petals. Floette had recovered mid-fall, using the momentum of her spin to generate a shield of leaves that absorbed the Force Palm's impact.

The Butterfly Effect

In the stands, Maylene was practically hanging over the railing. "Did you see that? He's using the Petal Blizzard to create a physical buffer! That's brilliant!"

The blonde girl beside her nodded, her eyes wide. "He's treating the moves like a Contest, but applying the logic to a real-life combat situation. Look at how the petals are moving now..."

Back on the field, Julian saw the opportunity he had been waiting for. Lucario was beginning to flag; the weight of the earlier battles with Growlithe and Sylveon was finally catching up to the veteran.

"Excellent, Floette! Now, launch the Petal Blizzard directly at him!"

Floette waved her flower like a conductor's baton. The swirling mass of leaves and petals didn't just fly forward; they surged in a wide, undulating wave, like a sea of green and pink.

"Lucario, one more time! Force Palm to blow it back!" Aaron commanded.

Lucario unleashed a massive blue wave, aiming to part the sea of petals. But Julian had anticipated the move.

"Split it, Floette! Use Psychic to guide the petals!"

As the blue shockwave hit the center of the storm, the petals didn't shatter. Instead, they scattered outward like a kaleidoscope of butterflies, bypassing the Force Palm entirely. The blue energy hit the wall behind Floette with a thunderous BOOM, but the petals—now divided into a dozen smaller streams—curved back inward.

Lucario was wide open, his arm still extended from the Force Palm.

Swish-swish-swish!

The petals struck him from every angle—his back, his sides, his legs. He was completely enveloped in a swirling cocoon of razor-sharp leaves and Fairy-infused petals. For a moment, the spectators couldn't even see the blue jackal; he was lost in a floral whirlwind.
