The glowing light of the morning sun poured over the desert of the Land of Wind, transforming the endless dunes into a sea of liquid gold.

At the heart of this harsh landscape, Sunagakure stood not merely as a simple haven amidst stone canyons, but as an imposing, modern metropolis challenging the aridity of nature.

The pink crystal dome gleamed under the sun, serving as the most dazzling spectacle in the entire desert. Inside, the air remained remarkably cool, though the atmosphere hummed with an intoxicating mix of military tension, commercial vibrancy, and the constant murmur of thousands of voices gathered to witness history in the new Sunagakure.

The month of preparation had passed with the speed of a desert gale, culminating in the long-awaited day of the Chūnin Exams final phase.

However, the true trial by fire for Sunagakure's infrastructure and security had not begun this morning, but a week prior—when diplomatic delegations and the highest leaders of the Great Shinobi Nations began filing through the village's main streets.

Seven days ago, Sunagakure's grand entrance had witnessed an unprecedented security display. The massive gates of stone and reinforced crystal remained wide open, flanked by ranks of elite Hidden Sand shinobi clad in their official uniforms.

The first major delegation to march through the gates was Kumogakure's. Led by the Fourth Raikage, A, the delegation moved at an unrelenting pace. Beside him, flanking with watchful eyes, walked his most trusted Jonin, Darui and Dodai, keeping pace on either side of their Kage.

When the Raikage crossed the defensive threshold, he came to a sudden halt. His yellow eyes, accustomed to the rocky verticality and cloud-wrapped peaks of the Land of Lightning, swept heavily across the urban layout of the village.

He had expected to find a village haggard from water scarcity and the brutality of the climate, just as old military intelligence scrolls indicated. Instead, he was met with wide, paved avenues, an aqueduct system protected by chakra sealing formulas delivering fresh water to every sector, and medical ninja patrols whose fluid movements betrayed rigorous military training.

A clenched his jaw, crossing his heavy arms over his chest. Kumo spy reports regarding Suna's economic resurgence had been dismissed by his advisors as exaggerated Sand propaganda. Seeing the reality hit him head-on left a bitter taste in his mouth.

"So this is what Daigo has been building during this peace..." A growled in a low voice, addressing both escorts without averting his eyes from the reinforced buildings embedded with glass and mineral structures. "The reports were no exaggeration. This isn't the Suna of two ninja wars ago. Under the command of the Crystal Demon, everything has changed."

A few hours after Kumogakure's arrival, the Stone delegation made its appearance from the north. The Third Tsuchikage, Ōnoki, descended from the sky using his Doton: Kankō-no-Jutsu, flanked by his son Kitsuchi and a full squad of the Stone's ANBU guard.

Ōnoki hovered down slowly until he floated mere inches above the paved ground of the central plaza. His wrinkled eyes narrowed as he analyzed the intricate defense seals carved into the entrance arches.

He remembered the Suna of the Third Great Shinobi War with absolute clarity: an exhausted nation begging for treaties, trapped in a financial crisis that seemed doomed to fade into obscurity. He himself had signed agreements stripping the Sand of key trade routes.

Yet, walking through the streets of Sunagakure during the days leading up to the exam, envy began to gnaw at his pride. He saw local clans organized with discipline and strength. He witnessed the Yuki clan deploying thermal domes to maintain sub-zero environments in the middle of the desert, and he saw how the civilian population revered their Kazekage with unwavering loyalty.

'Damn you, Daigo,' Ōnoki thought in the privacy of his temporary quarters, clenching his fists behind his back. 'You turned a barren rock into a power capable of overshadowing Iwa. These years of peace have only expanded the threat you pose. If the balance was broken at the end of the war, it now tilts far too heavily toward Suna—and I won't even speak of Kiri.'

The last major delegation to reach the village, barely three days before the tournament, was Konohagakure's. The Fifth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, made his entry escorted by his two students, Itachi Uchiha and Shisui Uchiha. The presence of the "Yellow Flash" drew the gazes of civilians and shinobi alike, but Minato's focus was entirely set on assessing his surroundings.

Minato walked through the central market, taking note of the abundance of resources, the technology applied to resource filtration, and the sharp chakra signatures of the guards posted on every corner. Konoha had always considered itself the undisputed cradle of prodigies and the dominant military power among the Great Nations.

Yet what Minato observed in Sunagakure was a calculated, meticulous evolution—devoid of the political vices that had weighed down the Leaf for so long.

"Incredible..." Minato muttered quietly to himself as he looked up at the towering Kazekage Monument. 'Daigo didn't just restructure the economy; he eliminated clan divides and unified the village's strength under a flawless tactical vision. I knew Suna wouldn't be weak with Daigo as Kage, but I didn't expect this level. Now they are a giant walking beside us... or perhaps ahead of us.'

Throughout that week, Sunagakure served as the epicentre of global diplomacy. State banquets, closed-door meetings among the Daimyō of various provinces, and coordinated security patrols filled the preceding days.

The Mizukage's absence was obvious, as Kiri remained entangled in a civil war that had already placed them on the radar as the weakest nation. Four Kage gathered in a single city represented the densest concentration of military power the world had seen in decades.

And so, after a week of rising political tension and soaring expectations, the day of the final phase had finally arrived.

The Grand Sand Colosseum rose as a colossal monument in the heart of the desert. The stone stands, arranged in concentric rings ascending toward the sky, were packed with thousands of spectators. Banners from every nation fluttered in the warm breeze, while the roar of the crowd created a constant vibration that rattled the stadium's foundation.

In the VIP box, situated at the highest point of the structure to command a panoramic view of the battle arena, Daigo stood tall. He wore the green and white Kazekage robes with natural majesty, holding his ceremonial hat under his arm.

His single pink eye meticulously scanned the colosseum: the placement of ANBU squads in blind spots, the covert presence of the 7 Espada of the sand dispersed among the audience, and barrier seals ready to activate at a moment's notice.

To his right, seated comfortably on a cherry-wood chair with effortless elegance, was Minato Namikaze. The Hokage maintained a serene and friendly composure while conversing with the Daimyō of the Fire Country, though his blue eyes continuously surveyed the Sand guards, evaluating their readiness.

To Daigo's left, floating a few inches off the floor with his arms folded, was Ōnoki. The old Tsuchikage wore his habitual scowl, occasionally darting his glance toward the competitors' tunnel where his granddaughter Kurotsuchi awaited her match. Though he tried to hide it behind a mask of severity, a slight spark of grandfatherly pride gleamed in his weathered eyes.

Completing the table of leaders, the Fourth Raikage, A, occupied his seat with contained impatience. His massive fists rested on his knees, radiating an aura of raw physical power that kept attendants at a cautious distance.

Daigo stepped forward, approaching the edge of the main balcony. Upon spotting the figure of their leader, the thunderous roar of the crowd gradually waned until it settled into an absolute silence.

Channeling a precise measure of chakra through his vocal cords, Daigo spoke. His voice resonated clearly across every corner of the vast colosseum without the need for amplifiers.

"People of Sunagakure, esteemed Daimyō of the Provinces, honored Kage, and distinguished visitors who grace our home today..." Daigo began, his gaze sweeping over the sea of spectators. "Welcome, all of you, to the final phase of the Chūnin Exams."

The entire stadium erupted into a deafening cheer that seemed to shake the desert sky itself. Daigo raised his right hand slightly, and the crowd instantly fell silent once more.

"Today, we shall not only witness the skill, strategy, and courage of the shinobi who have reached this stage," the Kazekage continued. "Today, we shall behold the birth of the new generation that will uphold the destiny and peace of our nations. I express my sincere gratitude to the Hokage, the Tsuchikage, and the Raikage for honoring this event with their presence. Without further delay... I officially declare the finals open!"

The crowd's cheers exploded with renewed intensity. Daigo stepped back composedly and took his seat on his ceremonial throne in the center.

At that moment, the voice of the proctor Jonin, tasked with announcing the matches over the arena's sound system, echoed across the field.

"First match of the first round!" the announcer's voice boomed. "Gaara of Sunagakure versus Deidara of Iwagakure! Will both contestants descend to the battlefield!"

The excitement in the stands hit a fever pitch. Wagering among nobles and eager chatter among veteran shinobi intensified. Gaara was widely known for applying Crystal Style to his sand and for being Daigo's direct student, while Deidara represented the most talented, explosive vanguard of Iwagakure's elite corps and disciple to Ōnoki himself.

From the north tunnel of the stadium, Gaara stepped out at a slow, measured pace. His face remained calm and unreadable, his eyes locked onto the center of the ring. An aura of icy composure surrounded him, chilling the air in his wake.

From the south tunnel, Deidara emerged with a swaggering, casual gait. Both hands were buried deep in the pockets of his tactical pants, his signature blonde bangs obscuring the left side of his face. An arrogant, confident smirk curled on his lips as he surveyed the crowd with superiority.

Both genin halted ten meters apart in the center of the reinforced stone and compacted sand field.

Between them stood the proctor of the match, an experienced Sand Jonin with his face partially covered by a light cloth and his Sunagakure headband tied firmly. The judge examined both youths for a brief moment, sensing the overwhelming chakra pressure emanating from the two rising stars.

"The rules are absolute," the proctor announced in a carrying voice. "The match will end by explicit surrender, verified physical incapacity, or if it is determined that a participant's life is in imminent danger. Are both combatants ready?"

Deidara let out a brief, mocking chuckle, pulling his right hand out of his pocket and slowly flexing his fingers.

"This is gonna be way too easy, hm," Deidara boasted, looking Gaara up and down with clear disdain. "Art has no time for detours or boring speeches. I'm gonna show you what true ephemeral art looks like in a matter of seconds, Sand kid."

Gaara didn't even blink. The Stone ninja's arrogance didn't trigger the slightest shift in his cold demeanor.

"I expected nothing less from someone from Iwagakure," Gaara replied, his low, raspy voice echoing with a haunting resonance. "But don't be mistaken... you won't be walking out of this ring intact."

Deidara's grin widened as a dangerous spark glinted in his eyes. He gave a quick nod to the proctor.

The proctor glanced between both boys one last time, raised his right arm perpendicular to the ground, and brought it down sharply, slicing through the air.

"Begin!"

In a flash of movement, the proctor vanished from the arena floor using a Body Flicker Jutsu, reappearing instantly atop the perimeter wall.

The moment the judge's arm dropped, the dynamic inside the colosseum shifted violently. There were no probing moves or diplomatic exchanges.

Deidara thrust both hands with lightning speed into the canvas pouches strapped to his waist. The mouths built into the palms of his hands greedily devoured handfuls of white clay infused with his Earth and Lightning chakra, kneading and shaping it in a fraction of a second.

"Take this!" Deidara yelled, thrusting his arms forward abruptly.

Half a dozen small clay sculptures shaped like white birds burst from his palms. The instant they crossed into the open air, the figures took flight, flapping their clay wings at terrifying speeds and fanning out to encircle Gaara from multiple angles.

"C1!" Deidara shouted, forming a detonation seal with the index and middle fingers of his right hand.

Gaara didn't take a single step back. He remained rooted to the center of the ring, simply extending his right hand toward the ground with an open palm.

CRASH!

The stone and compacted sand beneath Gaara's feet shattered. It was not common golden desert sand that emerged; a dense surge of translucent crystal granules, interwoven with thousands of pure crystal shards, erupted upward like a violent geyser. The tide of sand and crystal rose at blinding speed, interlocking into a perfect 360-degree protective dome that encased Gaara completely.

Deidara's clay birds slammed head-on into the gleaming surface of the crystal-sand barrier.

"KATSU!" Deidara roared with a manic expression.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

A sequence of deafening explosions shook the foundations of the stadium. The blasts produced blinding flames, dense plumes of smoke, and expansive shockwaves that rattled the glass in the lower stands. A veil of dust and soot billowed upward, completely veiling the Sunagakure ninja's position.

Civilians in the upper seats gasped in shock at the immediate violence of the tactical strike.

In the VIP box, Ōnoki let out a raspy little chuckle, adjusting his robes over his shoulders as he floated.

"That Deidara kid has always been promising; that's why I took him on as my disciple," the Tsuchikage commented with poorly disguised satisfaction. "His explosive creations carry enough force to level fortress walls. Your student will be lucky if his arms are still intact after direct hits like those, Daigo."

Daigo didn't even bother to look at him. He kept his gaze focused on the field, watching the cloud of smoke with an unreadable smile playing on his lips.

"You shouldn't make the mistake of judging the strength of my student's sand and crystal based on the fragility of Iwa stone, Ōnoki," Daigo replied with unshakeable calm. "Look closer. Deidara is going to need a lot more than that to bring Gaara down."

Before the Kazekage's words could even settle over the Kage table, a sharp, crystalline hiss cut through the stifling air of the arena.

The dense cloud of smoke from the clay explosions was violently blown away by an expanding shockwave of chakra. As the dust cleared, Gaara's dome of crystal and sand stood erect in the center of the ring, absolutely pristine. Not a single crack, scratch, or sign of weakness showed on its surface.

Deidara opened his eyes in surprise, his confident smirk stretching even wider.

"So he can tank C1, huh?" Deidara muttered, taking a few steps back. "Well, I expected as much... the old man did warn me that his crystal style was tough..."

The protective dome began to liquefy with astonishing fluid grace. It didn't crumble in rigid blocks; instead, it transformed into a cascade of fine sand and razor-sharp crystal needles orbiting harmoniously around Gaara.

The young red-haired boy remained in his initial stance, arms crossed, eyes fixed on his rival.

"Your clay moves fast and makes a lot of noise," Gaara stated in an emotionless tone, slowly raising his right hand. "But that level will never crack my basic defenses."

Gaara closed his fist tight.

Instantly, the mass of sand and crystal orbiting him split into three massive serpent-like whips that reared up into the stadium sky. With a deafening roar of grinding sand and crystal, the three giant whips plunged downward toward Deidara's position, cutting off every ground escape angle.

Deidara smirked to himself as he executed a high backflip into the air, plunging both hands frantically back into his clay pouches.

"Don't think that's all I've got!" Deidara shouted mid-air, desperately molding a much larger sculpture in his palms as the surging wave of crystal sand rushed to crush him, launching it high into the sky just before the strike hit.
