A few days later.
The morning prior to the formal opening of Sunagakure's massive gates did not begin in a sterile hall or in the central plaza of the tower, but across the various training grounds distributed through strategic sectors under the great glass dome.
For Sunagakure's high command, every team representing the village required a unique technical and mental preparation before facing the rookies of the outside world.
In the eastern sector, inside a private training ground surrounded by reinforced stone walls, Sunagakure's first team was finalizing their coordination routines. At eighteen years old, Guren stood as a respected and lethal Jonin. She wore her distinctive brown high-collared tactical coat with crystal applications on the shoulders, keeping her arms crossed while observing the performance of her three pupils.
In front of her, Sunae and Daiku were engaged in close-quarters unarmored sparring. Sunae, wearing her cream-colored tactical outfit with leather shoulder guards and the bandages on her fists tightened to the limit, moved with wild agility.
Her movements combined direct Taijutsu with the constant accumulation of heat. Beside her, Daiku wore his dark brown short jacket over a clean white T-shirt, maneuvering fluidly with the katana sheathed on his back while blocking his twin sister's strikes. Both shared the heritage of Shakuton (Scorch Release), a destructive and suffocating art they had refined under the unyielding gaze of their mother, Pakura though their taijutsu was no less impressive, having been trained by Daigo himself.
A few meters away, Karin sat on a stone block, wearing the light vest of the medical and support division. With her glasses adjusted on her face and her striking red hair tied in a practical ponytail, the young Uzumaki clan member held a tactical analysis scroll, precisely measuring chakra fluctuations along with many seals in preparation.
"Enough for now!" Guren ordered, raising a hand and bringing the twins to an immediate stop with slightly heavy breathing.
"Sunae, you're leaving your left flank exposed when you focus too much on combat. Daiku, don't rely solely on distance with the katana; if a taijutsu user slips inside your guard, you have to react fast."
"I was just about to land the hit, sensei!" Sunae protested with a pout, wiping the sweat from her forehead with the back of her arm.
"I assure you no foreign genin is going to be able to react in time to my speed!"
"I almost have all the necessary seals ready to support both of you, Sunae, Daiku," Karin chimed in with a calm yet professional voice, adjusting her glasses as she read her notes.
"My job is to keep you alive and with full reserves ready, so listen to me."
Daiku let out a small laugh, keeping his composure as he looked at his twin sister.
"Told you so. Arrogance will only tire you out prematurely. Besides, don't forget the goal is to crush the other teams as a united front."
Guren offered a proud, subtle smile, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"I love the energy from the three of you. I trust that all three of you are ready for this exam; trust in Karin's mind, work as a team, and you will pass the tests. Also, don't trust the other teams in these exams, only you three matter," Guren warned them.
The three students nodded to their sensei with confident smiles, eager for tomorrow to arrive.
Simultaneously, in the tactical training ground of the northern sector, Sunagakure's second team maintained a serious atmosphere under the leadership of Baki, a member of the 7 espadas of the sand. With his characteristic mask covering his Byakugan and his Nuibari on his back, Baki commanded respect through his sheer strength.
Temari, Kankuro, and Kimimaro formed a terrifying and highly balanced trio. Temari adjusted the leather straps of her giant fan crossed on her back, checking the metal tension with a cold, intelligent gaze.
Beside her, Kankuro performed a meticulous inspection on the joints of his bandage-wrapped battle puppets, ensuring every needle and poison mechanism functioned with the fluidity Sasori demanded in the workshops.
In the center of the formation, Kimimaro remained completely motionless at fourteen years old.
"Our formation is the most versatile in Sunagakure," Baki declared, pacing slowly in front of them.
"Temari controls space and wind on a large scale; Kankuro rules ambushes, restraint, and direct poison; and Kimimaro is the impenetrable wall and the ultimate strike in close combat. All three of you have already completed missions outside the village and faced enemies, so I expect great things from you. The other teams will try to isolate Kimimaro to prevent his taijutsu, so you two must keep the field clear and don't trust anyone else in these exams, no one is your comrade except yourselves."
"Don't worry, Baki-sensei," Temari replied with serenity and confidence in her voice.
"If any idiot tries to get close to Kimimaro without going through my wind gusts, they'll be sliced into a thousand pieces before touching the ground."
"My puppets have the new paralytic poisons prepared that Sasori-sensei and I developed, and he said they're very good," Kankuro added with a malicious grin.
"I assure you no one will walk away unscathed if they try to catch us off guard."
Kimimaro simply opened his eyes, showing a calm yet unyielding gaze.
"I will fulfill my duty with maximum efficiency. We will not allow ourselves to lose to anyone."
With Baki nodding, everyone was more than ready for the upcoming day.
In the training field of the western sector, surrounded by artificial dunes and filtered water fountains, stood the third representing team under the command of the Jonin Arata.
The Jinchuriki of the One-Tail supervised three youths whose combined abilities represented a true tactical nightmare and talent: Gaara, Haku Yuki, and Asper Dokuhebi.
Gaara, wearing his dark tunic, stood with his arms crossed over his chest. Around him, a continuous, silent tide of sand floated in the air without touching the ground, responding to his will without the need for hand seals or bloodline influence.
Beside him, Haku wore an elegant light cream and white tactical outfit, holding several senbon needles between his fingers with icy calm and a graceful posture. Completing the group was Asper, the young heir of the Dokuhebi clan, wearing a dark-scaled tunic and carrying multiple vials of poison alongside his companion: a Komodo dragon roughly 3 meters long, its golden scales and black tongue moving at a slow rhythm.
"The nature of this team is swift, silent annihilation," Arata reminded them in a serious tone.
"Gaara's sand and crystal restrict and direct the flow of combat; Haku's ice blocks escape routes and creates blind spots with mist; and Asper's toxins and his companion take care of paralyzing or finishing off the enemy before they even know what hit them. Maintain elemental control and don't reveal your true reach in the first round."
"Understood, Arata-sensei," Haku answered with a slight, inclined bow. "We will work in perfect harmony."
Asper let out a faint smile, adjusting his face guard as a small dark-scaled snake slithered down his wrist.
"Our poisons are ready. Right, Kai?" Asper said as he ran his hand over the Komodo dragon's head.
Gaara simply closed his eyes, causing the sand to descend gently to the ground at his feet without kicking up a single dust cloud. His gaze reflected the peace of a warrior eager to show his new strength.
Finally, in the underground training ground of the southern sector, Sunagakure's fourth team trained under the orders of Genta, a member of the 7 espadas of the sand. Equipped with his Kiba swords, he led this group composed of young representatives from the clans integrated into Sunagakure quite possibly the dark horses of the Chunin Exams: Shima Museifu, Kanra Chinoike, and Sōritsu.
Shima wore his clan's light tunic with runic markings on the hilts of his assault weapons; Kanra, a young girl with an upright posture and a sharp gaze, adjusted her vest straps, briefly revealing the menacing reddish glow of her Ketsuryūgan; while Sōritsu reviewed his summoning scrolls and support tools.
"You represent the diversity and unity of Suna's new families, and you will be the surprise of this event," Genta told them with a firm voice.
"Show them that Sunagakure's new clans are just as deadly as the village's traditional forces."
"We will make the name of our clans resound across the entire continent, Genta-sensei," Kanra declared with determination, clenching her fists while her eyes reflected the resolve of her bloodline.
Hours later, the main gates of Sunagakure's great glass dome opened with a deep, majestic hum produced by high-tech hydraulic gears.
Along the vast stone canyon that served as the primary entry route, an impressive reception committee formed by members of the 7 espadas of the sand, clad in their signature armor and led by the imposing figure of Kisame Hoshigaki with Samehada on his back, flanked the pathway for the newly arrived guests.
Baki with the Nuibari, Genta with the Kiba, Kaito with the Kabutowari, Malenia Chinoike with Hiramekarei, Yura Kiribucho, and lastly Yaoki with the Shibuki.
The foreign delegations began entering in a coordinated fashion under the watchful eye of the Anbu network directed by Rasa from the upper platforms, alongside the automated puppet patrols created by Sasori.
From Konohagakure, the turnout was massive. Marching forward were the eleven genin divided into their respective teams alongside their instructors: Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy, Asuma Sarutobi, and Kurenai Yuhi. Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno walked at the front of the Leaf genin, looking around with expressions ranging from childlike amazement to tactical wariness. Beside them, the teams of Shikamaru, Choji, and Ino; Neji, Lee, and Tenten; and Kiba, Shino, and Hinata advanced, taking in every detail of their surroundings.
From Iwagakure, the delegation arrived wrapped in an air of military rigidity and discipline. Leading the way was the veteran Jonin Kitsuchi, serving as instructor for the sole team sent by the Stone: Deidara, Kurotsuchi, and Sekka. Deidara, with his long blonde hair tied back and tactical clay pouches at his waist, looked at the dome and mechanical structures with clear distaste, chewing clay between his teeth like gum. Kurotsuchi walked beside him with her arms crossed, observing the city's opulence with curiosity.
From Kumogakure, the imposing Jonin and Jinchuriki Killer B led the march, dropping rhymes in his characteristic tone, followed closely by his representing team of Samui, Omoi, and Karui. Samui maintained a cold, professional composure, visually recording the guards' positions, while Omoi munched on candy while muttering paranoid theories about the dome's security, and Karui stepped forward with clenched fists, visibly impressed by the scale of the village.
Along with the Three Great Nations, smaller contingents from minor villages like Kusagakure, Amegakure, and Takigakure also passed through the security checkpoints, submissively enduring automated chakra scans and mechanical puppet patrols.
As the delegations crossed the entry filter and stepped into Sunagakure's urban core, the cultural and visual shock was devastating for the visitors.
The village streets were not made of dry sand or stone, but of polished, clean, and cool pavement. The air inside did not burn the throat with dust or grit; the temperature was pleasant, regulated by purified air currents circulating from the top panels of the dome. Crystal-clear water fountains decorated public parks, where greenery thrived right in the heart of the desert a luxury that would have been considered an impossible fantasy in the past.
"You've gotta see this, Sasuke!" Naruto yelled, running toward the edge of a plaza and staring wide-eyed at the tall residential towers with translucent glass and automated lights.
"This was supposed to be a desert! They have more water and taller buildings than Konoha! It's crazy!"
"Shut up, Naruto, you're drawing too much attention," Sakura said softly, though she couldn't help but gaze in admiration at the shops filled with fresh fruit, imported silk fabrics, and technology she had never seen back in the Leaf.
Sasuke Uchiha remained curious, his dark eyes scanning the architecture. At the top of one tower, he spotted a squad of mechanical puppets patrolling in perfect synchronicity without visible chakra threads a detail that made him realize just how powerful Sunagakure really was.
"The sheer amount of resources flowing through this place is unbelievable," Shikamaru Nara muttered, walking with his hands in his pockets alongside Asuma.
"Setting up an event like this in the middle of the desert takes terrifying logistics. The Kazekage really changed the game."
"And the food smells amazing," Choji added, hungrily eyeing the roasted meat and spice stands along the avenue.
In the Iwa delegation, the reaction was far more bitter. Deidara glared at the reinforced glass buildings with a scowl.
"Tch... what is all this shiny garbage, hm?" Deidara grumbled, spitting on the ground.
"Glass buildings and reinforced stone... This has no artistic sense whatsoever. True beauty is a fleeting explosion, not this giant glass box."
"Keep your voice down, Deidara," Kurotsuchi ordered sternly, though her own eyes couldn't stop taking in the clean streets and abundant markets.
"You have to admit the Kazekage pulled off something absurd here. My grandfather Onoki was right to be worried... Suna looks nothing like the starving village I heard it used to be."
"Lower your voices," Kitsuchi warned from the front in a low tone.
"Look at the perimeter guards. Those men up front aren't normal shinobi."
Kitsuchi pointed subtly toward Kisame's honor guard.
The 7 espadas of the sand stood firm along the main avenue. The sheer presence of Kisame and the others, carrying their swords and grinning with razor-sharp shark teeth, radiated an amount of chakra and bloodlust that made even the foreign Jonin instructors keep their hands close to their weapon pouches.
"Well, well..." Karui whispered in the Kumo delegation, swallowing hard at the sight of Kisame and the rest.
"That guy is the monster from the Mist who joined Suna... Do they really have guys like that just patrolling the streets like it's nothing?"
"Lots of water, lots of glass, top-tier security that can't be passed, but in the arena the Cloud will shine at last, yeah!" Killer B rapped enthusiastically, though his dark eyes picked up the presence of Rasa's grey-cloaked Anbu strategically positioned on the upper rooftops.
In the middle of the main avenue, Might Guy walked beside Kakashi Hatake. The taijutsu master looked at Suna's citizens, who wore high-quality clothing and smiled peacefully as the delegations passed, without the slightest trace of fear or hardship.
"It's impressive, isn't it, my rival?" Guy commented so his rival could hear.
"The Kazekage didn't just change Sunagakure's military power; he completely rebuilt its social fabric."
"Yeah, I see it, Guy I'm surprised you noticed that," Kakashi replied, adjusting his headband over his left eye.
"The security system at the entrance analyzed our chakra without most of the genin even realizing it. And the dome puppets respond to a central network. If we tried a conventional attack here, it would be a slaughterhouse."
As the delegations moved toward the luxury accommodations prepared for the visitors, tension was palpable in the air. The smaller villages looked upon Suna with respect bordering on reverence, while the youths from Konoha, Iwa, and Kumo felt an involuntary pang of envy at the comfort, technology, and splendor of the Utopia.
High up in the central tower, Daigo watched the sea of foreigners from his private balcony, with Pakura by his side.
"They're all inside now, Daigo," Pakura said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Iwa looks at us with hatred, Kumo with wariness, and Konoha with caution."
"Exactly as I planned," Daigo smiled, his pink eye and glass eye gleaming under the dome's light.
"Tomorrow the First Phase begins. Let them see what our kids are capable of."
