The Rasengan roared with a deafening hum in Minato Namikaze's right hand, illuminating the peak of the Hokage Monument with a sky-blue glow that contrasted with the dense darkness of the night. In front of him, Obito maintained his firm stance, with his Mangekyō Sharingan spinning intensely behind his spiral mask. The storm wind violently whipped the cloaks of both warriors, marking the beginning of the longest millisecond in the history of the Leaf. The tension was so high that the air itself felt heavy, almost solid, as if the fate of the entire shinobi world was hanging by an invisible thread at that exact instant.
Without a word, Minato charged forward at an impressive speed, throwing his three-pronged kunai straight at the enemy's eyes. Obito did not flinch; he let the metal weapon pass cleanly through his head thanks to the intangibility of his Kamui. The weapon flew past, cutting through the air without touching a single fiber of the intruder's cloak.
"It's my victory!" Obito thought with glee, extending his right hand to firmly grasp the Hokage's shoulder the exact moment their bodies crossed in mid-air, ready to warp him completely into his pocket dimension and eliminate the village leader once and for all.
But Minato had already calculated that thousandth of a second with mathematical precision. Just as Obito's fingers brushed the fabric of his white cloak, the three-pronged kunai that had passed through reached Obito's back. In a flashing yellow spark, Minato vanished from Obito's grasp and reappeared in mid-air right above him, catching the kunai with his left hand as he descended with lethal speed and gravity.
"Flying Raijin: Level 2!" Minato bellowed, his voice echoing like thunder across the mountaintop.
Before Obito could process the complex maneuver or reactivate his intangibility in time, the Fifth Hokage slammed the Rasengan directly into his lower back. The impact was devastating. The spinning, destructive energy tore Obito's cloak to shreds, cracked the solid rock of the Monument to create a giant crater, and sent Obito crashing violently into the stone ground. The pain was so acute that Obito completely lost focus due to the massive damage to his body; that brutal impact abruptly disrupted the flow of his chakra, causing him to instantly lose the mental control he held over the Kyūbi. The connection to the fox broke not because of a seal, but by the sheer force of the blow received.
Spitting a large amount of blood and with his left arm severely damaged, Obito staggered backward as space began to warp around him in a desperate vortex.
"You are truly worthy of the title of Hokage, Minato..." Obito hissed, his voice dripping with pure hatred as his body was rapidly sucked into the Kamui. "But this is not over. I have brought your village to its knees, and sooner or later, the entire world will know the true pain of loss. Enjoy these years."
With those final words of warning, the phantom vanished completely from the area, leaving the Fifth Hokage alone on the mountain peak, breathing heavily as he watched the disaster unfolding below.
Below, in the main streets of Konoha, the situation took a catastrophic and terrifying turn. Upon the breaking of Obito's genjutsu due to the damage he suffered on the mountain, the Kyūbi did not calm down in the slightest; on the contrary, recovering its own will and absolute control over its actions, it grew even more enraged at the sight of the annoying humans surrounding it. Finding itself bound by the shadows of the Nara clan and restrained by the giants of the Akimichi clan, the Nine-Tailed Fox unleashed an untamable fury that fully demonstrated why it was the strongest and most feared of all the tailed beasts in the entire world.
An earsplitting roar filled with hatred shook the village structures, releasing an expansive shockwave that shattered the containment jutsus like simple worn-out threads. The chains of the Akimichi clan snapped with a metallic crack that echoed across several districts, sending Choza and his strongest ninja crashing violently into residential buildings. Shikaku's shadows dissolved instantly against the tremendous pressure of the demon's corrosive, poisonous chakra.
The Kyūbi began to tear through everything in its path in a completely erratic and unstoppable manner. With a single swipe of its nine tails, entire districts of wood and stone were wiped off the map in a second. The beast's razor-sharp claws crushed the defensive lines of the elite shinobi, leaving a bloody trail of destruction and death within moments. Casualties among Konoha's military ranks began to multiply at an alarming rate, filling the air with screams of agony and despair.
Feeling the relentless, annoying Fire Style attacks from the Uchiha clan division, the fox opened its giant jaws toward the center of the village. Blue chakra and red chakra began to mix in the air at a staggering speed, condensing into a black, dense, massive sphere of pure energy: a Tailed Beast Bomb of giant proportions that threatened to erase the Leaf from existence.
"Damn it, it's going to blow up the entire village! Run!" a front-line ninja screamed before being consumed by the widespread panic.
The destructive sphere was complete in the blink of an eye, and the Kyūbi launched it with brutal force straight toward the underground shelters where the civilians were hiding. But just before the devastating attack could hit the first structures of the village, a yellow flash streaked across the night sky. Minato Namikaze appeared mid-air in front of the mass of dark energy, extending his hands alongside a giant sealing barrier he had previously prepared with his special three-pronged kunai.
Space ripped open like an invisible, hungry mouth, absorbing the Tailed Beast Bomb completely in the middle of a deathly silence. Kilometers away beyond the village borders, in an unpopulated wasteland, an explosion of giant magnitudes illuminated the night horizon, shaking the earth with the force of an earthquake and saving Konoha from immediate, total annihilation.
Without losing a single instant, Minato dropped to the ground and executed a rapid sequence of hand signs, slamming both palms onto the destroyed earth.
"Summoning Jutsu!" he roared with determination.
A dense cloud of white smoke blanketed the village sky, and Gamabunta, the imposing chief of the toads, fell with all his giant weight directly onto the Kyūbi's back, pinning it temporarily against the cracked ground.
"Hurry up, Minato! This thing has stupid strength, I won't be able to hold it for long!" Gamabunta roared, using his front legs and his enormous katana to press down on the fox's limbs.
The Kyūbi thrashed with unbelievable rage, digging its claws into the earth and managing to lift part of its giant torso, causing even more damage to the nearby village infrastructure. Minato, watching from a distance the terrible deaths of his ninja and knowing perfectly well that the village would not survive a second assault of such destructive magnitude, made a definitive and risky choice.
"I'm sorry, Gamabunta. Hold on tight, we're getting out of here!"
Activating a long-range Flying Raijin mark he had placed deep within the forests, at a very safe distance from the urban area, Minato teleported the Kyūbi, Gamabunta, and himself in a massive flash of yellow light, vanishing from the center of Konoha in the blink of an eye to continue the battle on another front.
The forest clearing shook violently as the giant mass of the Kyūbi crashed into the soft ground, snapping century-old trees around it like simple dry twigs. Gamabunta vanished immediately in an enormous cloud of smoke, having exhausted every last drop of his chakra in the initial containment effort inside the village.
Unexpectedly, Kushina Uzumaki was already at the location, having dragged herself out of her safe hiding place using the final biological strength of her wounded body. With a fierce determination that only a mother possesses, the red-haired woman extended her hands forward and released the Adamantine Attacking Chains of her special chakra, which burst from her back and dug deep into the earth, binding the giant body of the fox to restrain its immense destructive power for a few moments.
Minato fell to his knees beside her, breathing with extreme difficulty. Cold sweat drenched his pale face. He knew that the only way to save the future of the ninja world was to seal the beast immediately, but the full chakra of the Kyūbi was too large and dense for the body of a newborn like his son Naruto. He had to divide that power at all costs so the baby could endure it.
Just as Minato began to perform the forbidden hand signs to summon the Shinigami, the Kyūbi, realizing the Hokage's sealing intentions, gathered the remnant of its tremendous physical strength. With a violent, unforeseen swing of its right arm, it managed to free one of its claws from Kushina's chains and thrust it at a lethal, superior speed directly toward the makeshift crib where little Naruto was crying loudly.
Minato and Kushina lunged forward without a second thought, ready to use their own weakened bodies as an ultimate human shield to take the demon's giant claw and save their son.
But before the razor-sharp edge of the claw could touch the skin of the protective parents, a familiar silhouette interposed itself in the exact trajectory using a high-speed Body Flicker Jutsu. The horrifying sound of tearing flesh echoed cruelly throughout the forest clearing.
Fugaku Uchiha stood rigidly in front of them. The giant claw of the Kyūbi had pierced his chest completely, destroying his tactical commander armor and staining the green ground with an enormous, alarming amount of crimson blood.
"Fugaku!" Minato gasped, his eyes wide in absolute shock at the sight before him.
The leader of the Uchiha clan coughed up a heavy mouthful of blood, but maintained superhuman willpower to stand firmly on his feet, using both hands to desperately grip the fox's claw and stop it from advancing a single millimeter further toward the infant. His single right Sharingan eye gleamed with a tragic and beautiful intensity under the cold light of the full moon.
"Minato... Kushina... listen to me carefully while I can still speak..." Fugaku uttered in a broken, choking voice, blood continuously spilling from the corners of his lips as he felt his life force rapidly slipping away. "It is already too late for me... this chest wound is entirely fatal anyway. Do not let your young life extinguish here tonight, Minato... the broken village desperately needs its Hokage to stand back up."
Fugaku looked steadily and solemnly into the Fifth Hokage's blue eyes, showing an unyielding resolve that touched the deepest part of Minato's soul.
"Use the Reaper Death Seal... summon the Shinigami at once. Let the Death God take my dying soul as the ultimate sacrifice in your place. I will be the price of exchange for the seal... give my life to save the future of the Leaf, keep you safe, and leave my clan free of all blame from that Uchiha who did this."
Minato felt a bitter, painful lump form in his throat, but the firm gaze of the Uchiha leader allowed no arguments or trivial discussions in that moment of life and death. It was the ultimate heroic act of a great commander giving absolutely everything for his homeland and for the final redemption of his lineage's name before the eyes of all.
"Fugaku... I cannot ask this of you..." Minato's voice trembled with grief.
"Do it now, Minato... do not waste time..." Fugaku interrupted with difficulty, his breathing becoming a faint, dying wheeze as the giant claw of the Kyūbi threatened to crush his remaining bones. "Just... I ask one final thing of you as a friend, as a rival, and as a shinobi of the Leaf. Take good care of Mikoto... look after my son Itachi... and little Sasuke. Make sure they both grow up in the Konoha you and I dreamed of building... a village unified under the light, completely free from the shadows and prejudices of the past, just like my clan."
Minato gritted his teeth with a mixture of deep pain, infinite respect, and a renewed military resolve. Wiping away the tears that threatened to blur his vision, he nodded firmly to his dying comrade.
"I swear it to you on my own life and on my honor as Hokage, Fugaku. Your beloved family will be protected with all our power, and your great sacrifice will never be forgotten by the history of the Leaf."
Fugaku smiled faintly, an expression of peace and absolute relief crossing his bloody, battered face. Minato, without losing a single millisecond, executed the final sequence of forbidden hand signs, summoning the towering, spectral presence of the Shinigami right behind the Uchiha leader.
The transparent, cold arm of the Death God plunged through Fugaku's wounded body, reaching out with power toward the body of the Kyūbi. Guided by Kushina's Uzumaki chakra acting as a mystical filter through her chains of energy, Minato divided the immense power of the beast with extreme precision. Fugaku's dying soul was forcefully taken by the deity as the total payment for the death contract, allowing Minato to use the standard Eight Trigrams Sealing Style to lock the entirety of the fox's chakra inside Naruto's small body, without the need to lose his own life in the sealing process.
A giant flash of blinding white light completely blanketed the forest clearing, illuminating the skies for kilometers as the intricate black sealing formulas burned themselves into the baby's small abdomen. The Kyūbi let out one last, frustrated roar of agony before vanishing entirely from physical reality, safely confined within its new human prison.
When the immense light completely dissipated, the deepest silence returned to the shattered forest. The lifeless body of the hero Fugaku Uchiha fell heavily onto the blood-soaked grass, bearing an expression of serenity and pride engraved on his still face.
The superhuman effort of executing the technique, combined with the corrosive residue of the demon's chakra and the tremendous strain of the seal, exacted a severe and permanent toll on the two survivors. Minato and Kushina collapsed to the ground at the same time, exhausted, feeling a massive, painful, and irreversible loss of their own vital energy. Their natural chakra reserves, which used to be exceptionally high, were permanently reduced by around 25%, leaving their bodies severely weakened—a limiting physical condition that would accompany them for the rest of their days in this world, preventing them from ever fighting as they once did.
Crawling with what little physical strength remained in their arms, Minato and Kushina slowly approached the crib and together lovingly embraced little Naruto, who had finally stopped crying under the moonlight. The long night of absolute chaos had ended, the Leaf had been saved by the ultimate sacrifice of an Uchiha, and a new, uncertain dawn awaited on the distant horizon of the great shinobi nations of the elemental world.
