The rain didn't stop when the game ended.
It followed them back like a shadow that refused to detach.
Students streamed out of the arena with wet shoulders and soaked hair, some laughing, some shouting, some quiet like they were carrying private funerals. The campus lights reflected on the puddles, turning the walkway into broken glass. Every step splashed, and every splash felt louder than it should have.
XH walked with the boys in a tight cluster, jacket heavy with water, ribs aching, mouth tasting like blood and shame. JP muttered curses under his breath. TZ stayed silent, jaw tight. HS walked like a ghost, eyes fixed on the ground, hands trembling. NS stayed calm again, too calm, gaze forward, posture straight, as if he were already planning how to win the next quarter in his head.
Kitty and June walked with the girls a few steps behind. Kitty held her arms around herself, trying to keep warm. June didn't look cold. She looked furious, and fury makes people feel hot even in rain. NC hovered near Anna, keeping her steady. Cherry walked with her chin lifted, eyes sharp, expression bitter like she was memorizing every injustice for later revenge. Jihye was unusually quiet, fingers curled around the strap of her bag.
A staff line waited near the dorm entrance.
Not a normal dorm monitor line.
A full checkpoint.
Clipboards. Radios. Flashlights. Faces too calm.
XH felt the air shift the moment he saw them. His stomach tightened. The institution never ended a day with rest. It ended a day with control.
"Students," a staff supervisor announced, voice loud enough to cut through the rain. "Remain in your cohort groups. A compliance audit will occur."
JP's head snapped up. "Compliance audit."
The staff supervisor didn't look at him. "Phone compliance. Device review. Immediate."
Kitty's breath hitched. June's jaw clenched. NC's posture tightened. Cherry scoffed quietly. Anna looked like she might cry again. Jihye's eyes narrowed.
Phone compliance.
They didn't even pretend it was about learning anymore.
It was about ownership.
XH's phone wasn't in his pocket. Phones were restricted. But everyone carried something, even if it was sealed, even if it was in a supervised pouch, even if it was "not to be used."
The staff supervisor raised a hand. "This is routine. You will submit devices for inspection. Any prohibited content will be logged."
JP muttered, "Prohibited content. Like breathing."
TZ hissed softly, "JP."
The staff supervisor continued, "Any refusal is noncompliance. Noncompliance affects placement."
Placement.
The bell.
The government program.
The words hit HS like a physical slap. HS's shoulders jerked. His breathing sped up.
XH reached out and lightly touched HS's elbow. "Breathe."
HS swallowed hard. "I can't. I can't do this."
XH's voice stayed low, steady. "You can. One step at a time."
NS looked at HS briefly, then back to the staff line. "We comply," NS said quietly.
JP's head snapped toward NS. "Stop saying that."
NS's eyes were sharp. "Stop giving them reasons."
The staff supervisor began calling groups forward.
Engineering first, of course.
VT's cohort stepped up with relaxed confidence. They handed devices over without fear. VT smiled faintly like this was all part of his plan. His eyes flicked toward the girls, then toward XH.
Kitty felt her stomach twist. She didn't like VT's calm. Calm meant preparation.
June watched VT with a cold expression, not afraid, but aware.
When VT's cohort finished, the staff supervisor called, "Health Track."
The words fell heavy.
Health Track stepped forward as a group. The staff supervisor's gaze moved over them like counting prey. The staff member beside him held a tray for devices.
"Place devices here," the staff supervisor said.
Students began handing over pouches and phones one by one.
Kitty handed hers with a small tremor. June handed hers with a clean, controlled motion. NC handed hers calmly. Cherry handed hers like she was daring them to accuse her of anything. Anna handed hers with shaking hands.
Jihye handed hers slowly, eyes sharp, as if she was studying the staff member's face.
On the boys' side, TZ handed his over without expression. JP handed his with visible resentment. HS handed his with trembling fingers, then looked like he wanted to vomit. NS handed his over calmly.
XH held his device pouch for half a second longer than necessary.
He didn't know why.
He just felt something wrong in the air, like a draft in a sealed room.
The staff supervisor's gaze narrowed. "Student."
XH forced his hand to move. He placed his device pouch on the tray.
The staff supervisor nodded slightly, as if satisfied.
Then the staff member behind the tray began opening pouches and checking devices one by one. They weren't checking messages. They weren't checking health resources. They were scrolling galleries, checking downloads, checking what could be used as shame.
The rain kept falling. Water ran down the staff supervisor's coat like he was waterproof.
XH stood still, jaw clenched, eyes fixed on the staff hands.
Kitty stood a few steps away, watching too, heart pounding.
June's arms were crossed, eyes sharp.
The staff member reached XH's device.
They opened the pouch.
They turned the phone on.
XH's stomach tightened.
The staff member began scrolling through the gallery.
At first, it was nothing.
Screenshots of class notes. A blurry photo of a whiteboard. A picture of a group table in the library. A food photo from a cheap stall that looked like a joke.
Then the staff member stopped scrolling.
Their thumb froze.
Their face changed.
Not shock, exactly.
Interest.
The staff member looked up at the staff supervisor.
The staff supervisor stepped closer.
"What is it," the staff supervisor asked calmly.
The staff member tilted the phone slightly so the supervisor could see.
XH couldn't see the screen from his angle, but he saw Kitty's face change.
Kitty's breath hitched.
June's eyes narrowed.
NC's posture tightened.
Cherry's expression sharpened.
XH's stomach dropped.
The staff supervisor's eyes moved across the screen, then lifted to XH's face slowly.
For a second, the rain felt louder.
For a second, the campus lights felt too bright.
The staff supervisor spoke, voice low but clear.
"Student XH," he said. "Explain this."
XH's heart slammed.
He took a half step forward. "Explain what."
The staff supervisor held the phone up slightly.
The screen showed a nude photo.
Not a screenshot. Not a meme. A real nude photo, posed, sharp, intimate. The kind of photo that belonged to someone's private body and private choice.
A girl's body.
Not Kitty. Not June. Someone else.
XH's mind blanked.
For half a second, he felt like the world turned sideways.
Then heat surged into his chest.
"What," XH whispered.
The staff supervisor's voice stayed calm, almost pleased. "This content is prohibited. It indicates misconduct."
Misconduct.
That word tried to turn his existence into a crime.
XH's throat tightened. "That's not mine."
The staff supervisor didn't blink. "It is on your device."
XH's chest burned. "I didn't take that. I didn't save that. I didn't."
The staff supervisor's gaze stayed steady. "How did it get there."
XH's hands trembled. "I don't know."
The staff supervisor turned the phone slightly again, scrolling.
More photos.
Not just one.
A small set.
The same body. Different angles. Different lighting. All intimate.
Kitty's face went pale.
June's jaw tightened so hard it looked like pain.
NC whispered, barely audible, "They planted it."
Cherry muttered, "Dirty."
Anna covered her mouth.
Jihye's eyes went cold.
XH felt his vision blur with rage and panic.
He looked around.
VT's cohort stood a few meters away, watching.
VT's expression was calm, almost bored.
But Wink was there too, half behind VT's shoulder line, face composed, eyes avoiding direct contact. Her posture looked like someone holding a secret too tightly.
XH's gaze flicked to her.
Wink's eyes met his for half a second.
Then she looked away fast.
Something in XH's stomach dropped deeper.
The staff supervisor spoke again. "This requires review."
XH's voice shook. "Review what. It's planted."
The staff supervisor's tone remained polite. "Do not make accusations without evidence."
Evidence.
The institution's favorite word.
They controlled evidence.
They broke cameras.
They logged narratives.
They decided what existed.
XH looked at Kitty and June instinctively.
Kitty was staring at him, eyes wide, tears gathering, not from jealousy but from fear. Fear that the institution would use this to destroy him. Fear that the story would twist until even she couldn't defend him publicly.
June's expression was controlled, but her eyes were sharp like knives.
June spoke, voice calm but loud enough to cut through rain. "This is a setup."
The staff supervisor turned his gaze to June. "Student, you will remain silent."
June didn't flinch. "You can't punish him and pretend this is clean."
The staff supervisor's face tightened slightly. "You will sit down."
Cherry stepped forward half a step, voice low and cold. "Show us the time stamp."
The staff supervisor ignored her.
Kitty's voice trembled but came out. "He's not like that."
The staff supervisor looked at Kitty, expression blank. "You are not qualified to assess character."
Kitty's eyes filled with tears. She wiped them quickly, ashamed of the weakness.
XH felt his chest tighten painfully.
He wanted to comfort Kitty.
He couldn't.
He wanted to shout.
He couldn't.
Because the cameras were not supposed to be here, but students' eyes were. Staff eyes were. VT eyes were.
Narrative was already forming.
The staff supervisor handed the phone back to the staff member and spoke into a radio quietly. Then he looked at XH again.
"This will be recorded," he said. "You will report after training for review processing."
Review processing.
Those words sounded like a trapdoor.
JP stepped forward suddenly, voice loud. "He's captain. You're trying to destroy him before Game 2."
The staff supervisor stared at JP. "Sit down."
JP didn't sit.
TZ grabbed JP's sleeve hard. "JP."
JP's eyes were wild. "They're framing him."
NS spoke calmly, voice low. "JP. Not now."
JP snapped his head toward NS. "Not now. When. When he's already cut."
XH's mind spun.
Cut. Red. Bell. Government program. Lose everything.
The institution had found a new lever.
If they couldn't break Health Track on the court, they would break them off the court.
They would break the captain.
They would break his aura.
They would break his standing with Kitty and June.
They would break the trust inside the cohort.
XH's breath turned shallow.
Rain ran down his face and mixed with sweat.
He felt like he was drowning while standing.
The staff supervisor raised his voice slightly, making sure everyone heard. "Health Track. Return to dorms. Training window begins in one hour. This matter will be reviewed after."
After.
Everything dangerous here was always "after."
After meant later, when they could isolate you.
After meant behind doors.
After meant no witnesses.
Health Track moved back toward dorms in a tight cluster, but the air between them was different now.
Students whispered as they walked.
Some looked at XH with concern.
Some looked with curiosity.
Some looked with a flicker of doubt, because doubt is easier to plant than truth.
XH felt it.
He felt every glance like a needle.
Kitty walked beside June and NC, but her eyes kept flicking toward XH, worried, trembling, as if she wanted to run to him and couldn't because the campus had trained them to fear being seen.
June walked with her chin lifted. Her anger looked like it could keep her upright forever.
Cherry whispered to NC, "They're not just trying to win. They're trying to erase him."
NC's voice came quiet. "We won't let them."
Jihye didn't speak. She just watched Wink from a distance, eyes cold, as if Jihye had already memorized her face for future revenge.
In the boys' dorm room, the air was thick.
JP paced again like the floor could absorb rage.
"That's it," JP said. "That's the move. They want him unstable.
They want him suspended. They want us to lose."
TZ sat on the bunk, rubbing his jaw slowly. "They want him doubted."
HS sat with his hands in his lap, trembling harder now. "If XH gets cut, we're dead."
XH sat on his bunk staring at his hands.
He felt numb.
Then the numbness cracked into rage.
He stood up abruptly and slammed his fist into the wall.
Pain shot through his knuckles.
He didn't care.
"Fuck," XH whispered.
JP froze.
HS flinched.
TZ looked up.
NS stayed still.
XH's voice shook, raw. "They're doing it again."
He slammed his fist again, softer this time, more like he needed the sound.
"Fuck," XH said again. "I didn't do that. I didn't."
He paced two steps, then stopped, hands shaking.
"Why," he muttered. "Why does it keep happening. Why do they keep picking."
His breath hitched. He pressed his hands to his face hard, trying to crush the panic back inside.
"Fuck," he whispered again, quieter now, like the word was a prayer and a curse.
Then he lowered his hands and looked at the boys.
His eyes were red.
Not crying fully. Not yet. Just burning.
"I didn't do it," XH said, voice low. "I swear."
TZ's voice came steady. "We know."
JP's voice came rough. "I know."
HS's voice was small. "I know."
NS didn't speak immediately.
Then NS nodded once. "I know."
XH watched NS.
That calm nod didn't soothe him.
It made him uneasy.
Because XH didn't know who else NS had nodded at in private.
XH swallowed hard and forced himself to sit.
He had to keep it together.
Not for pride.
For the team.
For HS.
Because the rule was clean now, and it was war.
Win and go back to Campus-2 permanently, with everything erased.
Lose and all of Health Track dies on paper.
And now the institution had added a second condition they didn't announce on camera.
Destroy the captain so the war ends faster.
Outside, the rain kept falling.
No forecast.
No apology.
Just heavy droplets hitting the window like someone tapping a countdown.
In the girls' dorm, Kitty sat on her bunk staring at her hands.
June stood by the window, eyes hard.
Kitty whispered, "They'll ruin him."
June's voice was calm, sharp. "They'll try."
Kitty's eyes filled. "What if people believe it."
June turned slightly, expression cold. "Then we make them not believe."
NC nodded. "We demand evidence."
Cherry whispered, "They'll say cameras are broken."
Jihye's voice came quiet, eerie. "Then we make noise."
Kitty swallowed hard, remembering her dream.
XH and NS facing each other.
The glass.
The rain.
The silence.
Kitty whispered, barely audible, "It's starting."
June looked at her. "What."
Kitty shook her head. "Nothing."
But it wasn't nothing.
Because Kitty could feel it.
The campus wasn't only trying to win games.
It was trying to rewrite souls.
And the rain kept falling as if the sky was mourning in advance.
Game 2 was tomorrow.
The review meeting for XH was "after training."
And somewhere in the halls, Wink's planted photos sat on a device like a bomb that had already gone off, only waiting for the rumor to spread.
