Chapter 478 - Side Story: Akira Mado (5)

"The Washuu Clan was actually a ghoul family?!"

For the newly resurrected Kasuka Mado, this was undoubtedly shocking news.

She found it hard to believe that the Washuu Clan—who had single-handedly founded the CCG specifically to fight ghouls—were themselves ghouls...

"At first, almost no one believed it either. But the evidence was all there..."

Amaha Byakuya said.

He then explained several other matters to Kasuka Mado, helping her adapt more quickly to this entirely new world.

...

"I see. So the CCG is about to be renamed too, since what we'll be dealing with from now on isn't ghouls anymore..."

Kasuka Mado remarked. "Still, I'd like to continue working at the CCG."

"Of course that's fine. When the time comes, we'll restore you to your original position as Associate Special Class Investigator."

Amaha Byakuya said.

"That doesn't really matter to me. Starting over from Rank 2 Investigator would be fine too."

Kasuka Mado didn't care about such things.

Since Kasuka Mado could no longer find the way home, Kureo Mado and Akira Mado led her back to the house.

"So many years have passed—the interior decoration has changed quite a bit."

Kasuka Mado walked around the house, looking at everything. Almost nothing matched her memories.

Her memory of her home felt like it was from just a couple of days ago, yet in reality, eleven full years had passed. The feeling was extraordinarily strange.

"We kept a lot of Mom's belongings."

At that moment, Akira Mado stopped in front of a certain room.

This room was usually kept locked. Over all these years, it had rarely been opened, and entering was only for cleaning.

Inside were things their mother had once used, kept to commemorate her. This room had also been their mother's former bedroom.

But neither Akira Mado nor Kureo Mado could have ever imagined that Kasuka Mado would actually come back to life...

Now the fact that they had preserved those items held even greater meaning.

Kureo Mado promptly unlocked the door with a key.

Since the doors and windows had been kept shut, and Akira Mado and Kureo Mado regularly came in to clean, the room was still very neat.

Aside from the inevitable aging of certain items, there was basically no accumulated dust.

"You two really didn't have to... Even though I died, you didn't need to do all this..."

Looking at the room full of memory-laden items, Kasuka Mado's nose suddenly felt sore. "Every time you came in to clean, thinking of me must have made you sad all over again. You should have been looking forward, not back..."

"Dad and I both moved forward, but we could never forget you, Mom."

Akira Mado smiled.

"Ah... I still can't let go of you both after all."

Kasuka Mado then bowed solemnly to Amaha Byakuya. "I am truly, deeply grateful. Otherwise, I would never have had another chance to see Akira and Kureo again."

"There's no need to be so formal. Didn't we already say? We're family."

Amaha Byakuya smiled.

"Yes, we are family..."

Kasuka Mado gently wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes.

"You all continue chatting. I'll go prepare dinner."

At that moment, Kureo Mado spoke up.

With that, he headed to the kitchen alone.

"Kureo, I remember you couldn't cook before."

Kasuka Mado was somewhat surprised. "But I suppose that makes sense... In all the years I was gone, you raised Akira by yourself. You must have become quite the domestic dad..."
