Chapter 39 - CHAPTER-38 "KAYLA'S VOW"

(Note: In the previous sequence, Leo and Elsa were inside his bedroom. To maintain perfect continuity with the sudden transition to the outdoors, rain, and the car scene provided in the content, they have stepped onto the estate's private courtyard gardens just as the weather turned).

The heavy silence stretched between Leo and Elsa as they stood in the middle of the estate's sprawling private courtyard garden.

Above them, the dark gray clouds completely ruptured, causing thick, translucent rain droplets to begin falling steadily down upon their faces.

Neither of them made a single movement to seek shelter from the downpour; instead, both of them remained entirely silent, letting the cool water drench their skin.

Leo's eyes looked remarkably serious and intense as he stared at her, but the rigid lines of his face gradually began to soften the moment his gaze locked onto the sheer vulnerability in Elsa's eyes.

He lowered his head slightly, the cool raindrops sliding down his jawline as he questioned his own internal reality in the silence of his mind.

"What on earth is truly happening to me?"

"Why is it that I am completely unable to stay away from Elsa, no matter how hard I try to enforce my boundaries?"

Immediately, cutting through the rhythmic sound of the falling rain, a sharp, deafening gunshot echoed violently through the garden.

The high-velocity bullet whistled through the empty space, directly about to hit Leo squarely in the chest, but due to a sudden gust of wind, it narrowly missed his frame and slammed directly into the thick trunk of an adjacent oak tree.

"BANG!"

The sheer force of the sudden panic caused Leo and Elsa to instinctively dive for cover, falling heavily onto the wet ground at opposite sides of the stone path.

Within seconds, three mysterious figures emerged rapidly from the surrounding dense bushes, their entire bodies and faces completely covered in dark, matching tactical gear.

Without a single word of warning, the intruders immediately raised their weapons and tried to shoot Leo while he was down on the grass.

Leo's combat instincts kicked in instantly; he pushed his body off the muddy ground, getting up with incredible speed, and raced directly toward the three hooded men.

As he closed the distance, Leo reached behind his lower back, took out his personal concealed gun, and fired a precise shot at the first person who was actively trying to aim at him.

"BOOM!"

The first attacker collapsed instantly into the foliage, his weapon flying out of his grip.

Seeing their partner go down, the remaining two hooded men adjusted their positions, about to shoot Leo at point-blank range.

But Leo moved at an absolute, blinding speed that defied his recent physical injuries; before their fingers could even press the triggers, he fired two consecutive, highly accurate shots directly into their aiming hands and knees.

"BOOM!"

"BOOM!"

The two injured men let out sharp cries of pure agony, dropping their heavy weapons into the mud as they realized their ambush had completely failed.

Sensing their imminent capture, the two wounded men desperately turned around and began to scramble backward into the dark woods to escape, leaving the third accomplice behind.

Leo lunged forward, grabbing the third incapacitated person tightly by his jacket, his fingers digging into the fabric as he tried to violently tear the mask off his face to expose his identity.

Realizing he was completely trapped, the third person reached into his utility pocket and threw a heavy, blinding chemical powder directly into Leo's eyes.

Leo reacted instantly to the burning sensation, closing his eyes tightly and groaning as his vision was cut off.

Seeing the young heir temporarily blinded and vulnerable, the third attacker suppressed his pain, retrieved a hidden secondary pistol, and was about to shoot Leo directly in the head.

On the opposite side of the clearing, Elsa witnessed the imminent execution; using the full extent of her invisible, spiritual power, she violently intercepted the trajectory of the flying bullet.

The invisible shield caused the lethal bullet to ricochet sharply in mid-air, forcing it to change direction completely until it hit a nearby tree trunk with a loud thud.

Elsa desperately tried to sprint forward to personally catch the escaping attackers, but she paused the moment she looked back and found Leo still kneeling on the ground, closing his eyes tightly in deep discomfort.

Fearing for his safety above all else, Elsa stopped her pursuit and shouted his name across the rain-slicked garden.

"LEO!"

Leo forced his eyes open, blinking rapidly against the rain to clear the remaining residue of the powder, his voice deep and commanding as he stood up.

"Absolutely nothing happened to me, Elsa!"

"GET INTO THE CAR RIGHT NOW!"

"WE HAVE TO LEAVE FROM THIS AREA IMMEDIATELY!"

Elsa stepped toward him, her hands trembling as she looked at the dark woods.

"But... what about the people who just—"

Leo didn't let her finish, his tone turning incredibly firm as he pointed toward his parked luxury vehicle.

"I SAID GET INTO THE CAR!"

Leo turned his back, walking with rapid, heavy strides directly into the driver's seat of the car, slamming the door shut.

Elsa exhaled a shaky breath, quickly running around the hood and sitting down in the passenger seat next to Leo, buckling her seatbelt in silence.

As the powerful engine roared to life and the car sped out of the estate gates, a mysterious girl who had been hiding silently behind a thick pine tree stepped into the clearing.

She looked at the tire tracks in the mud, a deeply satisfied, wicked smile spreading across her lips as she pulled out a secure mobile device and rapidly typed a single message.

"THE MISSION IS COMPLETED!"

The entire drive back toward the central town mansion was wrapped in an absolute, suffocating silence.

Leo kept his eyes locked firmly on the wet asphalt ahead, his knuckles turning white against the leather of the steering wheel, while Elsa stared out of her side window, her mind spinning with a million questions.

Leo eventually pulled the car into the secure driveway of his private town residence, bringing the vehicle to a smooth halt.

Both of them exited the car and walked slowly toward the grand entrance door of the house.

The moment they reached the sheltered porch, Elsa paused, turning her body slightly away as if she were about to immediately leave his side and retreat to her separate quarters.

Leo stopped, turning around to face her, and asked Elsa in a remarkably soft, lowered tone that stood in stark contrast to his earlier shouting.

"Are you deeply scared right now because of me and the continuous, dangerous attacks looming over my life?"

Elsa paused, looking down at the stone floor before shaking her head slightly, her voice a quiet whisper as she lied.

"No."

Leo took a step closer to her, lowering his eyes slightly as a sincere, deeply grounded emotion filled his voice, his expression completely pure and honest.

"The truth is... I don't know exactly who is trying to systematically attack me out there."

Elsa remained completely silent, her heart aching with a profound sadness as she looked up into his face, watching him go entirely quiet for a long moment after finishing his sentence.

Leo raised his eyes, looking directly into her soul with an absolute, unyielding intensity that made her breath catch in her throat.

"But I know one single thing with absolute certainty, Elsa... I simply cannot bear it if anything bad happens to you."

"I WILL NEVER LET ANYTHING HAPPEN TO YOU."

Elsa stayed perfectly still, her lips parting slightly as she looked at Leo, completely overwhelmed by the sheer sincerity and serious purity radiating from his demeanor.

Leo took a brief, steadying breath, speaking the final words from the very bottom of his heart.

"I am right here for you."

Without waiting for her response, Leo turned around, pushed the heavy entrance door open, and walked directly into the privacy of his house, leaving her alone on the porch.

Elsa remained standing on the wooden steps in absolute silence, her entire heart suddenly feeling an incredible, overwhelming sense of spiritual peace upon hearing his words.

The deep, resonant tone of Leo's voice kept ringing continuously in Elsa's ears like a beautiful melody.

"I'm there for you..."

A soft, genuine smile broke across Elsa's face; she slowly sat down on the smooth stairs of the porch, wrapping her arms around her knees as she kept on smiling, completely lost in recalling the purity of Leo's protective promise.

Meanwhile, inside the brightly lit, sterile corridors of the central city hospital, a staff nurse walked briskly into Kayla's recovery room, holding a fresh tray of vitamins and charts.

Kayla sat up in her hospital bed, her face still slightly pale from the remnants of the recent warehouse incident, and immediately looked up at the nurse with deep worry.

"Nurse, please tell me... how exactly is my closest friend, Leah, doing right now?"

"She was admitted in the exact same room when that toxic gas was suddenly released into the ward."

"And also... I distinctly saw another mysterious girl standing right there rather than just me and Leah, and she was actively trying to save my life during the chaos."

"How is she doing? Where is she right now?"

The nurse stopped arranging the medicine bottles, her eyes widening in absolute shock before she let out a soft, amused laugh, shaking her head at Kayla.

"Madam, you are being completely delusional right now due to the heavy stress of the event."

"There was absolutely no one else present except for you and Miss Leah inside that sealed room when the security team broke the door down."

"Yes, whatever horrific event happened to you and Miss Leah was truly an absolute nightmare for our department."

"Suddenly, a highly poisonous, illegal gas cylinder was found hidden directly inside Miss Leah's private hospital room."

"To be completely honest, we don't possess a single clue as to how it even managed to come into our facility."

"But fortunately, our emergency response team saved both you and Miss Leah just in time."

"Just thinking about that terrifying incident makes me still feel incredibly frightened."

Kayla's brow furrowed in absolute confusion, her voice dropping into a frantic whisper as she gripped the bedsheets.

"There was absolutely no one else?!"

She lowered her head, murmuring the words frantically to herself.

"But... I know what I saw with my own two eyes... I saw a girl who looks exactly like Leah..."

"I am certain I saw her standing right there..."

A sudden, sharp headache throbbed behind Kayla's temples, causing her to press her fingers against her forehead in pain.

The nurse quickly stepped forward, adjusting the IV drip to comfort her.

"Please do not stress your mind right now, Madam; in fact, we have two wonderful pieces of good news to share with you today."

Kayla raised her eyes, trying to focus through her confusion.

"What exactly is it?"

"The first good news is that Miss Leah can officially become completely normal again, because another world-renowned German specialist, Mr. Samuel, is personally traveling to this hospital after ten days, specifically to take over Leah's case."

"He has already successfully succeeded in completely solving and curing multiple complex comatose cases exactly like Leah's condition."

A brilliant, radiant smile broke across Kayla's face, and she instantly reached out, holding the nurse's hands tightly in pure gratitude.

"Is that truly the absolute truth?!"

"Will my beloved Leah finally become completely normal again and come back to me?!"

The nurse smiled warmly, patting her hand reassuringly.

"Yes, Madam, it is the truth."

"Her internal heart rate is getting remarkably good compared to her old medical condition, though she is still technically trapped in her deep coma right now."

Kayla closed her eyes, tears of pure relief slipping down her cheeks as she exhaled a long breath.

"Thank God... thank you so much, God..."

The nurse smiled wider, clearing her throat to deliver the next update.

"And there is another incredible piece of good news, Madam!"

Kayla paused, waiting eagerly for the nurse to reveal the secondary update.

The nurse leaned in close, her voice bubbling with genuine happiness.

"You are officially pregnant, Madam!"

Kayla's jaw dropped in absolute shock, her entire body freezing as the words echoed in her mind.

A profound, overwhelming surge of joy instantly washed over her heart, and she lunged forward, throwing her arms tightly around the nurse in a warm, ecstatic hug.

"Thank you... thank you so much!"

Kayla pulled back, her eyes shining with pure happiness as she murmured softly to herself.

"I have to inform Oliver immediately... he is going to be a father..."

Hearing the name, the nurse's expression instantly turned cold and professional, and she stepped back slightly, her smile completely vanishing.

"Actually, Madam, I have some other very serious news to inform you about regarding that man."

Kayla blinked, her happiness faltering at the nurse's sudden change in demeanor.

"What is it? What happened?"

The nurse sighed heavily, picking up her medical ledger.

"Our billing department received a direct phone call from Mr. Oliver just a short while ago, and he explicitly stated to our staff that he will absolutely not fund a single cent for Miss Leah's advanced treatment, nor will he pay for your recovery bills either."

"Mr. Oliver spoke in an incredibly rude, hostile tone to our administrative team, and he literally stated, 'I don't mind if anyone dies over there.'"

Kayla's face went completely pale, her voice dropping into a dangerous, shocked whisper.

"What... Oliver said that?!"

"How on earth is that even humanly possible?!"

Kayla looked up at the nurse, panic gripping her chest as she realized their financial vulnerability.

"Did the doctors stop Leah's treatment because of his refusal?!"

"Please... I beg of you, continue her treatment without a single pause! I will personally clear every single cent that costs for Leah's medical care, I will find a way!"

The nurse smiled gently, placing a calming hand on Kayla's shoulder to stop her panic.

"Do not worry at all, Madam; absolutely everything for Miss Leah's advanced treatment cost has already been fully arranged and settled."

Kayla looked up, thoroughly confused and bewildered by the statement.

"But... how?"

"Our grand Hospital Chairman's son, who happened to visit this specific facility after sustaining some minor injuries, personally cleared absolutely every single outstanding balance after finding out about Miss Leah's critical condition."

"And not only did he cover Miss Leah's treatment costs, but he also completely cleared the medical treatment costs for many other struggling patients in the building, and he issued a strict corporate mandate that no medical treatment should ever get stopped because of money issues."

"He is an absolute gem of a man, Madam."

Kayla's eyes filled with tears of deep gratitude, a soft smile returning to her lips as she nodded.

"Yes... he truly is."

The nurse offered a final, polite nod, picked up her empty tray, and walked quietly out of the recovery room.

The moment the door closed, Kayla's expression hardened, her voice turning completely serious and determined as she stared at the wall.

"I will definitely, personally thank that magnificent man who saved my best friend's life, and I will pray to God every single day to give him a beautiful, better life."

She paused, her fingers tightening into tight fists against the hospital blanket as her thoughts shifted back to her partner.

"But also... I am absolutely going to teach a severe, unforgettable lesson to Oliver."

"Whatever he did to us is entirely unpardonable and wrong."

"I willingly gave all of my personal money and my entire business operations over to Oliver, and I granted him direct administrative access for absolutely everything, simply because I believed with all my heart that he was a good, noble man."

"Nowadays, his entire daily behavior has turned completely weird and suspicious... and I am absolutely going to make a serious, unyielding confrontation with him the exact moment I leave this be
