CHP 34 A Door That Won't Open
Wang San searched the Gu Clan halls, his footsteps echoing against the stone. Finally, he spotted Yun Zhan outside, standing alone under the cold moonlight.
San slowed, his chest heavy. "Zhan…"
No answer.
He stepped closer, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "I… I misunderstood earlier. I shouldn't have—"
Yun Zhan turned his back to him, adjusting the sword at his waist.
"Go back, Wang San."
San's heart sank. "I came to apologize. Can't you at least look at me?"
Zhan's voice was steady, but colder than the night air. "I have nothing to say."
San's throat tightened. For a moment, he stood there, watching Zhan's figure fade into the shadows. No matter how far he reached out, the space between them felt like a wall he couldn't break.
