Chapter 216 - CHAPTER 216

Morning arrived silently, yet the pressure they had felt since the previous night did not fade; instead, it sharpened into a single, focused purpose.

Sophia had been sitting at her station since dawn.

Her body was no longer forced to stand, but her eyes remained sharp, fixed on the screen displaying the final structure of the network, now on the verge of collapse.

She looked calmer, not because the burden had lessened, but because the decision had been made.

Beside her, Adrian Blackwood stood with his usual unshakable composure, yet there was one difference this time he was not only leading the operation, he was also guarding the line that could no longer be crossed.

"Latest status," Adrian said briefly.

Daniel immediately brought up the newest data on the display. "Seven nodes have fallen. Two remain as the final layer before the center," he said.

He zoomed in on the section in question, showing the two points still holding out, but clearly beginning to buckle under pressure.

"If these fall, the path to the core will be completely open."

Leonard Graves's voice came through the comms, more focused than usual. "I am in position," he said.

"Both points are guarded much tighter."

Adrian nodded slightly. "That is what we expected."

Sophia stared at the screen without blinking. "They know this is the final stage," she said softly. "And they will defend it with everything they have."

A brief silence fell, not out of hesitation, but because everyone understood that this was the defining moment.

There was no turning back, no room for error.

"We divide the pressure," Sophia said finally.

"Do not destroy both at the same time."

Daniel turned slightly. "To avoid an extreme reaction."

Sophia nodded.

Adrian added, "We take down one, let them focus all their defense on the last one, then we strike from another direction."

The plan was executed immediately.

Leonard moved toward the first point, his steps fast but measured. "I can see them now," he said. "More than before."

Adrian was unfazed. "Ignore the numbers," he said. "Focus on the target."

Daniel began opening pathways to provide support, ensuring every move Leonard made had enough room to maneuver.

The first few minutes were tense. The resistance was stronger than before, no longer a panicked reaction, but an organized defense.

"They are not retreating," Leonard said.

Sophia looked deeper into the screen. "Because they know if this falls, it is all over."

Adrian spoke calmly. "Which is why we give them no time."

"Now," Adrian said.

The first assault began.

On the screen, the first point started to weaken, not collapsing instantly, but clearly losing stability.

Daniel adjusted the pressure from the center, ensuring the system had no chance to recover.

Leonard kept moving, exploiting every gap that appeared.

Seconds felt like minutes.

Then.

"Node one down," Daniel announced.

There were no cheers.

No excessive reactions.

But everyone knew.

This was an irreversible step.

Sophia immediately shifted her gaze to the second point. "Now they will focus everything there," she said.

Adrian nodded.

"And we use that to our advantage."

Daniel was already ready, opening another route that had remained untouched until now.

"I have access from a different side," he said.

Leonard took a deep breath. "Moving to point two."

Adrian stopped him. "Wait."

Leonard fell silent.

"We will not repeat the same pattern," Adrian continued.

Sophia looked at the screen.

"We make them think we will attack from the same direction."

Daniel smiled faintly.

"And we enter from where they are not guarding."

The second phase moved faster.

Daniel opened a hidden pathway, utilizing the disruption caused by the fall of the first node.

Sophia monitored every detail, ensuring no small mistake could turn the tide.

Adrian stood amidst it all, keeping the direction straight.

Leonard waited in position, ready to move at any moment.

"Now," Sophia said softly.

Daniel executed the command.

A new path opened.

The second point was shaken before it could fully reinforce its defenses.

"They aren't ready," Daniel said.

Leonard moved in.

"Entering," he said.

There was still resistance, but not as strong as before.

Their focus was divided, their systems no longer synchronized.

"Keep pushing," Adrian ordered.

A few seconds later.

"Node two down," Daniel reported.

Silence fell.

But this time it was different.

Not because of pressure.

But because of one simple fact.

The path to the core was now open.

Sophia stared at the center, now visible more clearly than ever.

"Finally," she whispered.

Adrian did not answer immediately, but his eyes never left the point. "It is not over yet," he said.

Sophia nodded. "But this is the final step."

On the other side, Leonard exhaled deeply. "I can go straight into the center now," he said.

Adrian shook his head. "No."

Leonard went quiet.

"We do not attack without sealing all their escape routes first."

Sophia added, "If we strike now, they can shut down the system and escape."

Daniel began rescanning the entire structure.

"I will locate all backup pathways," he said.

Adrian nodded. "We close them all."

Several minutes passed in intense focus.

Every small route was checked, every possibility calculated.

There was no rush, even though they were so close.

Sophia leaned back slightly, but her gaze remained sharp. "This is our moment," she said quietly.

Adrian looked at her. "And we will not waste it."

On the screen, the center remained still.

But to them.

That was not calmness.

It was waiting.

And this time.

They were the ones who would decide when it all ended.

The silence after the last two nodes fell felt different; it was no longer suffocating, but expectant.

Sophia did not take her eyes off the center, now fully exposed.

Her eyes read every remaining small pathway like reading the final breath of something that had hidden for so long.

She did not rush, even though this was clearly the moment they had chased.

Adrian Blackwood stood beside her, his demeanor still calm, but the aura around him had shifted.

No longer merely observing, he was now preparing to finish it.

"Escape routes," he said shortly.

Daniel immediately displayed several small points hidden around the core.

"There are three backup pathways," he said.

"Small, but enough for them to flee if we make a wrong move."

Sophia narrowed her eyes. "We close them one by one," she said.

Adrian nodded. "No one gets out."

On the other line, Leonard Graves remained in position, his breathing steady even though it was clear he had been ready to move for a long time.

"Just say when," he said. There was no casual tone this time, only pure focus.

Daniel went to work, closing the first route carefully, ensuring no alarms were triggered.

"One closed," he said.

There was no major change at the center, but it was enough to confirm that their movements were still undetected.

Sophia watched intently. "Not too fast," she warned.

"If they feel trapped, they will destroy the system themselves."

Adrian added, "And we lose them completely."

Daniel nodded, slowing his pace, making every step feel natural.

Minutes passed.

"Second route closed," Daniel said.

Leonard breathed out slowly. "I can feel the pressure building here," he said.

"They are moving, but they don't know where to go."

Sophia looked deeper into the display. "Which means we are still one step ahead," she said.

Adrian finally spoke. "One more left."

The last pathway was the smallest, yet also the most dangerous.

If closed incorrectly, the entire system could collapse before they even reached the core.

Daniel paused for a moment. "I need time," he said.

Sophia did not push. Neither did Adrian. They all knew this was not a step to be forced.

Seconds felt like minutes.

Then.

"I have an opening," Daniel said softly.

He began closing the final route with extreme caution, every movement calculated, every change observed.

No one spoke.

Even Leonard in the field remained silent, waiting.

Then.

"Done," Daniel said.

All exits were sealed.

The center was now completely isolated.

Silence fell, but this time not out of tension.

But because of one realization.

This was the end.

Sophia took a long breath, her hands unconsciously clenching slightly before relaxing again.

She looked at Adrian. "Now," she said quietly.

Adrian stared at the core for several seconds, ensuring nothing was missed. Then he spoke.

"Initiate entry."

Daniel executed the command instantly.

The system opened.

The final layer crumbled.

And for the first time.

They saw what lay inside.

Not just data.

Not just pathways.

But the core structure that had controlled everything all along.

Sophia stared without blinking.

There was a vast amount of information, too much to process at once, but one thing stood out immediately.

Names. Projects. Transactions.

And amidst it all, one identity that could no longer be hidden.

She spoke the name softly.

"Marcus Sterling."

Marcus Sterling.

The room seemed to grow colder the moment that name was spoken.

Adrian showed no dramatic reaction, but his eyes hardened.

"Finally, we are here," he said.

Leonard laughed softly on the line.

"I've been waiting for that name to come up," he said.

Daniel remained focused on the screen. "This isn't over yet," he warned.

"If he realizes what is happening, he can destroy everything from within."

Sophia reacted instantly. "Secure all data," she ordered.

Daniel nodded and began copying the entire structure as fast as possible.

Adrian added, "And lock the access."

The process was fast, but not rushed.

They knew a single mistake could make it all disappear.

Seconds later, Daniel spoke. "Transfer complete."

Sophia looked at the screen one last time, confirming that everything was truly in their hands.

She took a deep breath.

"Now we have the evidence," she said.

Adrian nodded. "And now we have our target."

Leonard spoke again. "Next orders."

Sophia looked at Adrian.

Adrian looked back.

No long speeches.

No discussion needed.

Because they already knew.

This was no longer about finding.

This was about ending.

Adrian finally said calmly.

"We bring him down."

And for the first time.

That name was no longer just a shadow.

But someone they were about to destroy.
