He patted Ghidorah's neck. In the throat of the three-headed dragon's central head, golden light began to gather.
Valero's expression changed. "All Scorpion Crossbows, fire!"
Before his words had even fallen, the Golden Ray had already sprayed before his eyes.
The ray was like an enlarged version of a lightsaber from the Jedi Knights, starting directly from the left side of the city wall and sweeping horizontally to the right.
Anything touched by the ray vanished instantly. When the golden light dissipated, the entirety of Volantis fell into a deathly silence.
In the places that had been swept over, the lower halves of human bodies were left standing straight on the city wall. This was because Viserys and Ghidorah had discussed it; it was best not to destroy the integrity of the city wall.
Moreover, because the ray was so fast, the lower halves of those hit could still maintain their previous postures.
The urgently mobilized defenders in other sections were already terrified and in chaos. Many soldiers' hands were trembling, and their bodies retreated involuntarily. The oppressive feeling of facing a dragon directly was not something everyone had the courage to endure.
"Do not retreat!" a 'Tiger Cloaks' officer roared. "We still have Scorpion Crossbows, we haven't..."
He hadn't finished speaking.
Ghidorah's left head turned slightly and spat out a Frost Breath. The blue cold current accurately hit that section of the city wall, instantly covering it with a thick layer of ice. The Scorpion Crossbows and the soldiers operating them there were frozen solid.
The right head followed by breathing Dragonfire; the orange-red flames swept across a section of the city wall, and the people and defensive works upon it were turned to charcoal in the fire.
Black Flame followed close behind, his black dragon wings blotting out the sun.
He continuously cast down pillars of dark red flame onto the city wall; wherever he went, the defenders there would collapse, and deserters were fleeing in all directions on the wall.
However, the 'Tiger Cloaks' were indeed Volantis's most elite army, still managing to maintain stability until now. They acted like a disciplinary squad, continuously cutting down those fleeing soldiers and forcing them back to their posts, attempting to reorganize personnel for defense.
Just then, the sounds of battle and shouting came from within the city.
At an opened side gate, the red-robed warrior priests and the 'Tiger Cloaks' who had come to suppress them broke into a fierce battle. Flames burned in the streets as the warrior priests shouted "lord of light," using burning swords and axes to cut down the enemy.
Outside the city, Duke Arthur saw the gate open. He raised "Dawn," pointing the tip of the sword forward.
"Enter the city."
Then, leading the way, he and the Dothraki cavalry charged into the city, directly clashing head-on with the surrounding Tiger Cloaks. Behind them followed the chaotic charge of the Free Folk army. Finally, left behind them was the neatly aligned Unsullied legion.
The battle shifted from the city walls to street fighting.
But the street fighting did not last long. The Empire's strength held an absolute advantage. Viserys did not stay at the East Gate. He left the subsequent work to Duke Arthur while he rode Ghidorah, flying directly towards the heart of Volantis.
Black Flame stayed behind to clear areas of stubborn resistance along the way, using Dragonfire to burn paths through the complex streets.
Ghidorah flew low over the city. Viserys used his Wayfarer ability to lock onto the location of an old friend. By this time, the person had already entered a mansion, and there was a secret passage entrance in the mansion's backyard.
A minute later, Ghidorah landed in that mansion's backyard. His massive body crushed the houses and sculptures in the courtyard.
The mansion's guards originally wanted to try and resist, but after seeing one of Ghidorah's heads lean in front of them, they instantly lost their courage.
A few loyalists drew their swords and rushed forward; Ghidorah's right head spat a small burst of fire, directly turning them into charcoal.
Viserys jumped off the dragon's back, holding "Blackfyre" and "Bloodshadow," and walked straight toward that secret passage.
Nahalo Marlo had only just entered the secret passage at this time.
He heard the commotion outside, his face turning pale. "How could it be so fast..."
"Your Excellency Magistrate, where are you in such a hurry to go?"
Nahalo turned around abruptly.
Viserys stood at the entrance of the secret passage, holding dual swords. There wasn't much emotional fluctuation in his purple eyes, as if he were looking at a dead man.
"Your, Your Majesty..." Nahalo saw Viserys and managed to squeeze out a smile. "A misunderstanding, this is all a misunderstanding. I have always wanted to pledge my loyalty to you; I even wrote you a letter."
"I received your letter," Viserys interrupted him. "It was well-written, but unfortunately, it's useless."
Nahalo took a step back, his hand quietly reaching for the dagger at his waist. "Your Majesty, we are old acquaintances after all, and I can help you stabilize Volantis. I still have many supporters in the city, I can..."
"I don't need it. Back then, you sponsored my trip to Valyria only to use me to achieve your own goals. Moreover, that Marisus was clearly a puppet of Qarth; if not for my good luck, he would have already caused my death."
The moment the words fell, Nahalo moved, the dagger in his hand stabbing straight for Viserys's chest.
He wore a cruel expression, shouting "Die!"
But Viserys struck second and hit first; Nahalo didn't even see the movement clearly, only feeling a flash of sword light. He looked down and saw his right hand, which had been holding the dagger, severed at the wrist and lying on the ground.
The sharp pain took a moment to reach his brain, and he let out a piercing scream.
"I originally wanted to let you live for a while longer. This strike is for your actions just now," Viserys's voice was cold.
Immediately, a second sword strike shot out, severing Nahalo's knees. He knelt on the ground, screaming.
"This strike is for the assassins you sent."
When Viserys had just announced the founding of his kingdom, Nahalo only then learned that Viserys wasn't dead and was still alive. So, he immediately sent a representative to Viserys to demand the reward they had agreed upon previously.
As a result, Viserys only gave him some valyrian steel fragments, which made him very angry. Thus, he arranged for assassins to kill Viserys several times, but there was no follow-up at all, and he could only seethe in silence. Now that Viserys mentioned it, it seemed that some survivors were captured at that time.
Viserys did not torture him; the third strike slashed directly across his throat. Nahalo's eyes widened, his hands clutching his neck, making a wheezing sound of leaking air. He fell to the ground, his body twitching, blood gushing from between his fingers.
"This strike is simply because I want to kill you."
Then he swung another strike at Nahalo's son, who was already stunned with fear. After all, one must pull up the weeds by the roots to prevent future troubles.
Having finished all this, he turned and walked out of the secret passage, no longer looking at Nahalo on the ground.
Behind him, Nahalo's twitching gradually stopped, his eyes lost their luster, and the final expression on his face was full of fear and regret.
That night, the three-headed fire dragon flags of House Targaryen were raised everywhere within the Black Wall.
Volantis, the most powerful daughter of the Valyrian Freehold, finally welcomed a new master after hundreds of years.
Many liberated slaves piled their shackles together and set them on fire, declaring the end of another slave city.
The last Magistrate, Malaquo, was captured alive in his mansion; a Great Council of the whole city will be held tomorrow to judge his crimes.
Standing at the top of the Black Wall, Viserys looked down at the city where lights were gradually flickering on, his thoughts already having drifted to the battlefield on the other side.
He wanted to reach the New Ghis and Astapor battlefields before the news of Volantis's fall spread, and then take that city which was even more stubborn than Volantis.
