Black Flame's figure paused noticeably in the air, a hint of confusion flashing in its dark red vertical pupils. It felt as if something had just touched it, and only realized it was under attack after seeing the falling arrows. It let out an angry roar, the sound waves rattling the minds of the people on the surrounding ships.
Then, a mouthful of scorching dark red Dragonfire sprayed out, instantly igniting several surrounding ships. The crew members who were burned by the Dragonfire jumped overboard, only to sink into the sea.
Mazo's expression changed drastically. "How is this possible? It was hit, yet nothing happened." Was it false that Braavos previously claimed they repelled the valyrian dragon kings using Scorpion Crossbows?
He had no time to ponder.
Because Ghidorah had already begun her first round of attacks.
First, her left head spewed out an extremely cold Frost Breath. The blue cold current was like the Grim Reaper's scythe, slicing horizontally across three warships lined up side by side.
"Crack, crunch."
A bone-chilling freezing sound rang out. The three warships and the sailors aboard them were instantly coated in a thick layer of blue ice crystals. They remained frozen on the sea surface, holding the postures they had in life.
Immediately afterward, her right head spewed scorching Dragonfire, targeting four fast ships attempting to turn on the other side. The dark red flames seemed alive, wrapping around the hulls and instantly igniting all flammable material.
The sails turned into rolling clouds of fire, and the masts carbonized and snapped in the high heat. The screams of the sailors were drowned out by the roar of the exploding hulls. The three ships that were previously frozen burst open under the assault of the heat wave, their ice crystals scattering into the sea.
Only then did Ghidorah's middle head slightly lift, and a dangerous golden light appeared deep within its throat.
Mazo saw the golden light, and the premonition of death made his hair stand on end. "Scatter! All ships scatter immediately!"
But it was too late.
A deadly, violent Golden Ray shot out from Ghidorah's middle head.
It did not target a specific ship, but instead traced an arc, cutting in from the right flank of the fleet's vanguard, horizontally piercing five large warships advancing in a column and four Longships.
There was no fire, no loud noise.
Where the Golden Ray passed, the keels, cabins, decks, human bodies... in short, everything it touched was instantly reduced to nothingness, completely erased from existence.
Horrifying circular holes with smooth edges appeared on the hulls of these warships. Seawater rushed in frantically, and they sank at a visible speed without even a chance to struggle, leaving only a few whirlpools on the sea surface to prove their former existence.
In just one attack, the fleet lost sixteen warships, half of which were the backbone of the fleet: large warships.
Black Flame on the other side continued to attack the warships, with scattered Scorpion Crossbow bolts causing zero damage to it.
Streams of dark red Dragonfire rained down from the sky, accurately hitting the wooden warships. The normally thick oak planks seemed like paper mache before the Dragonfire. Even more terrifyingly, the flames ignited an Oil Jar stored on one of the ships.
"Boom."
A violent explosion sounded. The warship burst apart from the inside. The rising fireball carried ship fragments and human remains, flying tens of meters into the sky.
Mazo Reynal felt the blood drain from his body. He had personally witnessed the brutality of war, but the scene before him exceeded all his previous understanding of warfare.
This was more like a natural disaster, a great power that mortals could not possibly contend with.
The Imperial Fleet had now approached the battlefield. Although the Valyrian Fleet commanded by Duke William was smaller in number, their morale was extremely high as they watched the Imperial Dragons display their divine might before them.
Moreover, the range of the Valyrian crossbows was decent, so they did not engage in close-quarters boarding combat with the disorganized Volantis Fleet. Instead, they maintained their distance and used concentrated crossbow fire for long-range attacks to further maximize their gains.
"Retreat! Quickly pass the order, retreat! Retreat back to Volantis!" Mazo roared hoarsely. He knew this naval battle was completely lost, and the entire war was thoroughly lost.
Because they had no means to deal with the giant dragons. The only thing they could do now was preserve their strength and return to Volantis to make a final stand.
When the horn signal for the Volantis retreat was sounded, the remaining ships scattered chaotically in all directions.
Viserys watched the fleet below attempting to escape, but he would not give them the chance.
After completing another round of attacks, Ghidorah traced an arc in the air and turned back. This time, her target was clear: the Volantis flagship, the "Black Wall".
Mazo saw the coldness in the golden eyes of the three-headed giant dragon.
He drew his sword and roared toward the sky, "Volantis never surrenders! Aim for it, fire!"
The Scorpion Crossbows on the "Black Wall" and several surrounding ships fired simultaneously, and dozens of huge bolts whistled toward the sky.
But Ghidorah neither dodged nor avoided, and all three heads spewed simultaneously.
The Golden Ray from the middle head effortlessly "erased" the incoming bolts along with several ships behind the flagship. Then, the Frost Breath from the left and the scorching Dragonfire from the right simultaneously sprayed onto the "Black Wall", subjecting the ship to a dual assault of ice and fire.
The last sight Mazo Reynal saw before he died was the golden three-headed giant dragon pulling up again amidst the flames and ice, flying toward the sky, while the black giant dragon continued to wreak havoc among the fleeing fleet, spewing flames of destruction.
With the participation of the two giant dragons, this naval battle devolved into a one-sided massacre.
Out of the more than four hundred warships in the Volantis Fleet, two hundred battered ships eventually managed to survive and were captured by Duke Darry's fleet.
The personnel aboard these ships had completely lost the courage to pick up weapons and fight again; they were utterly subdued by the power of the giant dragons.
From then on, the Valyrian Imperial Navy completely secured command of the sea with minimal losses. These losses were merely due to scrapes from debris on the sea surface during the pursuit.
Viserys, riding Ghidorah, looked at the scene below and knew Duke William could handle the rest. So, he steered Ghidorah toward the battlefield in Sothoryos.
Ghidorah let out a long roar, turning and flying southeast. Black Flame followed closely behind, and the figures of the two giant dragons soon vanished into the horizon.
