Chapter 190 - Chapter 192 – Light Yagami and L's First Meeting

Demon Slayer World

'It's… it's incredible. Honestly, I feel my brain isn't enough.'

Tanjiro lay in bed watching L and Killer's duel on the screen, suddenly feeling like a total 'dimwit.'

Moments ago he'd thought L had died, slain by Killer—Light Yagami—through the death note.

Then came a 180-degree twist: L popped up, explaining it had been a death-row inmate, not him.

He himself was alive and well, practically begging Killer to come kill him, taunting and courting death.

But Light Yagami didn't know L's face or name, so there was nothing he could do.

From this point on, just as that Shinigami said, two strangers who'd never met intended to hunt each other down.

If you ignored the line about 'finishing you off,'

it could almost sound… romantic.

'Mm!'

Rengoku Kyojuro nodded. 'My brain feels inadequate too! In a fight I can read things, but this—no idea what's happening!'

'…If you don't get it, don't shout. There are injured people here.'

Shinazugawa Sanemi rolled his eyes. He didn't understand either, but the mental duel stunned him.

If it were him, he'd kill a demon first to liven things up.

For now he'd watch quietly to see who won—L or Killer.

Detective Conan World

'Hahahahaha!'

Kudo Shinichi, walking home with childhood friend Ran Mouri, burst into laughter.

'Is it really that funny?'

Ran watched L and Light Yagami make their moves, exasperated by her friend's low laugh-threshold.

'It's hilarious, hahaha!' He didn't mention he actually knew L.

That was a little secret between two great detectives; Shinichi admitted L outclassed him in reasoning, but he never yielded easily.

Though they'd met only days earlier through the multiverse projection, the instant they saw death note #7

both agreed the case would be brutal.

So brutal they couldn't guess how many would die before catching Light Yagami—or if he'd win.

After all, the death note in his hands was terrifying.

And now this scene was pure comedy:

Inside the video, L and Killer might have dueled again and again, detective versus criminal,

like Holmes and Moriarty.

But in real life L had already dispatched people to seize Light Yagami and check whether he held the death note.

Light Yagami was caught right at the start—how could Shinichi not laugh at the irony?

That's what happens when a genius criminal lets his identity slip.

Of course, whether Light was technically a criminal remained to be seen; perhaps he hadn't even obtained the death note yet.

Maybe he'd just gotten it and then saw this video.

If the former, fine; if the latter… 'hahahaha!'

The thought sent Shinichi into another fit.

'…' Ran sighed. 'Don't get so glued to the screen that you forget we're going to the amusement park tonight.'

She punched a nearby telephone pole.

Bang!

A fist-shaped dent appeared in the metal.

'I won't forget, I won't!'

Cold sweat on his brow, Shinichi promised he'd definitely accompany his childhood friend.

The video rolled on.

L and Killer's match began; move and counter-move delivered a thrilling battle of wits.

From Killer's—Light Yagami's—killing times, L deduced he was probably a student.

Using his father's position as head of the police agency's Criminal Bureau, Light hacked the computer, stole L's profile on Killer, and began timing criminals' deaths in intervals

to make police think a student was unlikely.

But sharp L noticed the timing shifts were too neat: Killer must have inside information—there was a mole in the police.

Yet Light's gambit was to force L into the open and drive a wedge between him and the police—a classic divide-and-conquer.

Meanwhile L's investigation advanced: he obtained a suspect list of 141 and set the FBI on them.

Among them was Light Yagami—Killer himself.

Soon Light spotted the FBI tail. Using his wits, others' kindness, and the death note

he slew one agent, then used him to wipe out the rest, plus the agent's girlfriend.

From that moment Light Yagami abandoned justice; he was simply a murderer.

The incident shook the police force; more officers quit, leaving only five—including Light's father.

Confronted with this situation, L, who had been hiding behind the scenes, finally appeared; he no longer concealed his face or voice and stepped out from the shadows.

What startled everyone was that this great detective was actually a rather young-looking boy with black hair and dark eyes. He didn't seem sunny at all; instead, he sat hunched in silence.

Without saying a word, he gave off the vibe of the mastermind behind the curtain.

Perhaps from spending too long in the dark, his skin had an unnatural pallor, and his clothes were so casually thrown on they looked downright sloppy.

Had anyone passed him on the street, they'd probably take him for the ultimate shut-in,

not the world-famous detective—L.

L's appearance pushed the tension to its peak.

The next thrilling scene arrived: L began investigating Light Yagami, monitoring his every move with surveillance cameras.

The moment Light showed any anomaly, L would brand him as Killer.

To everyone's shock, the instant Light entered his room he sensed something amiss. He snapped into character, pretended nothing had happened, and ignored the mutterings of the Shinigami Ryuk.

Then came Light's slick maneuver: exploiting Ryuk's weakness—his love of apples—he got the Shinigami to locate the hidden cameras and bugs.

Finally, Light staged his famous potato-chip assassination.

He tucked a miniature TV inside a bag of chips, munched away, read the criminal's name on the tiny screen, and scribbled it down with the pen in his hand.

The scene left countless viewers stunned—how outrageously brilliant!

L spotted nothing unusual in Light's behavior, yet he kept wondering: could Killer murder through sheer willpower?

Though he had no evidence that Light was Killer, he felt the probability was extremely high.

Time skipped forward; the scene shifted… Both L and Light scored perfect marks on the entrance exam and enrolled at Tokyo University.

Light noticed the oddball L—his bizarre posture and outfit stood out, and on exam day the guy had stared at him nonstop.

After the two delivered the customary speeches at the opening ceremony, L began his probe.

Walking behind Light, he said calmly, "Yagami-kun, son of Police Chief Yagami Soichiro, possesses a sense of justice equal to his father's."

'What the hell is with this guy?'

Light frowned slightly, glancing sideways at L with puzzled eyes.

Back in his seat, L continued: "He also aspires to become the top police official. In the past he offered tips that cracked several cases, and now he's deeply interested in the Killer affair."

"I trust your sense of justice and ability. If you swear to tell no one, I'd like to share vital information about Killer."

Mention vital information about Killer,

and Light's interest was piqued. While intrigued, he eyed L and wondered: "Why bring this up all of a sudden? Better to ignore him—yet this intel on Killer…"

Thinking that, Light slowly replied, "I won't tell anyone. What is it?"

A brief silence fell.

Then L turned, looked straight at Light, and whispered, "I am L."

"Thud—!!!"

The words echoed in Light's ears.

Light's pupils shrank; he never imagined the "vital information" would be this!!

'N-no way! What is he saying? L wouldn't just call himself L!'

'I already thought he was weird—Is he even sane?!'

'No—stay calm!!'

Shock rippled through Light; his body trembled. He inhaled sharply, forcing himself to stay composed.

'If he really is L, I have to act naturally as Light Yagami, son of Yagami Soichiro.'

With that, Light met L's gaze and said quietly, "If you're L, then you're someone I respect and admire."

"Thank you. I'll introduce myself," L replied, equally calm. "I thought you might help solve the Killer case."

Outwardly polite, L coolly analyzed: 'Probability that Light is Killer: under 5%. Yet among everyone, he feels the most suspicious.'

'You're too perfect—and if you are Killer, nothing could be more stressful.'

It was a test: L had revealed his identity to see whether Light would kill him on the spot or… "Heh-heh~" Ryuk chuckled beside them. "If this guy really is L, that's amazing."

The two who had wanted to meet each other had finally come face-to-face.

Listening to Ryuk, Light said nothing, but inwardly he agreed: 'True—if he is L… no, even if he isn't…'

'I… can't lay a finger on him right now. If what he says is true, Dad must have seen L's real face.'

'But if this self-proclaimed L dies, I'll be the first suspect.'

'Plus, he's using the blatant alias "Hideki Ryuuga." If I write that name in the death note and it isn't his real one, someone else might pop into my head instead.'

A rather handsome blond idol appeared on the screen.

Light sighed inwardly: 'That idol Ryuuga would die; if he doesn't, they'll deduce I'm Killer.'

'Is he L—and does he suspect me? I don't know how much, but he definitely does.'

'There's no other reason for him to introduce himself as L to Yagami Soichiro's son.'

'Is he still looking for Raye Penber's investigation targets?'

'But! Why would L appear directly in front of me...'

At this moment, Light Yagami's mind was a mess. He had thought about too much in a short period. Ultimately, he put on an air of nonchalance, exchanged a few simple words with L, and finally, both parties left the entrance ceremony and returned to their respective homes.

Magical Girl Illya World.

"So... so nervous!!!" Illya placed her hand over her chest, feeling her heart beating rapidly.

At this moment, Illya felt such a thrill. When L was talking to Light Yagami just now, he had directly outed himself as L.

In that instant, Illya felt it difficult even to breathe, her eyes widening in shock.

This wasn't a battle of swords and spears, but a battle of intellect.

Compared to No. 10 Mami Tomoe's unexpected decapitation, Joseph sending Kars into outer space, or No. 8's battle between brothers and the final truth...

At this moment, the battle of wits between the two high-IQ humans in No. 7 made Illya feel even more breathless.

Not just Illya, but Miyu was also taking small, shallow breaths. However, her eyes were growing brighter, clearly showing a deep interest in this.

"I'm also so nervous. Because if that Light Yagami had exchanged for those so-called Shinigami Eyes, then L would probably be dead by now."

magical ruby said this, clearly finding this scene exceptionally thrilling as well.

"If he had done that, it would be almost the same as telling the police that he is Kira," magical sapphire said in a very calm tone. "That's why he's so angry right now."

In the video, Light Yagami had already flown into a rage, losing his composure in his room. He knew this was L's plot, but he was helpless against it.

"An overt ploy," Miyu spoke up, looking at Light Yagami in the video. She said very calmly, "He's nearly in checkmate now. Although he says there's less than a 5% chance, L has already practically identified him as Kira; he's just looking for evidence now."

That was what Miyu believed in her heart. After all, despite L's words about a 5% probability, his every action clearly suggested he felt Light Yagami was Kira.

The opponent was too perfect, so perfect it was suspicious, and he was also the person most likely to obtain information from the police.

"Eh? Miyu! Look at the comment section!"

At this time, Illya seemed to have discovered something and said in surprise, "Light Yagami has appeared in the comment section!!"

"Eh?" Miyu tilted her head slightly, feeling a bit strange about it.

Because since this video series started with No. 10, the only protagonist to appear in the comments was Joseph.

No. 10 Mami Tomoe didn't show up.

No. 8's Uchiha Itachi and Uchiha Sasuke didn't appear either.

Who would have thought that one of the protagonists of No. 7, Light Yagami—who is Kira—would appear in the comments?!

What did he want to say by appearing in the comments? Was he going to insult the video creator?

Because most 'protagonists' only appeared after the video finished playing. For him to appear so early...

Did he want to say he couldn't keep up the act anymore?
