Chapter 489
Julie's POV
I bolted upright from my seat, as though a burning coal had scorched my spine. The fountain of suppressed bitterness surged up to choke my throat, and I stared at Dr. Mark with eyes blazing in shock and absolute rejection, crying out in a fractured, space-shattering voice:
"I don't think I can leave him here!..." I shook my head violently, my hands clutching at my own hair. "...I can never do that!"
The moment my words crashed against the ears of everyone in the room, Robert closed his eyes in a flash of sharp impatience. He expelled a heavy, scorching breath, stepping forward with weary eyes to hiss in a voice that was low yet overflowing with warning and pleading:
"Please, Julie..." He reached out, his heavy fingers wrapping firmly around my trembling wrist to anchor me in place. "...don't start this again."
