I didn't have enough courage to speak under the weight of his gaze that was piercing through me, but I gathered my shattered self and did my best. "It's just a joke," I said in a hoarse voice.
He fixed his eyes on mine and asked in a terrifyingly skeptical tone, "Is it a joke... or did this actually happen?"
"I swear to you, it's a joke," I replied, terror taking hold of me.
I saw him about to get up and move away from me, and I felt an overwhelming desire for him to stay. I hurried to cup his face between my trembling palms, pulled him toward me, and kissed him.
I didn't know how to kiss or exactly what to do, but I exerted all my effort to make him respond.
He pulled his lips away slightly, breathing heavily, and said in a resonant voice filled with passion, "They don't kiss like that."
"Teach me," I said with a breathless boldness, my eyes lost in his.
