The officers looked at the old man, who didn't seem to be in his right mind, then glanced at the inky black water of the lake.
The person who called it in had been rambling about a ghost by the lake.
Even for officers who had seen it all, the scene sent a slight chill down their spines. One of them tapped the old man again.
"Sir, hello. Can you tell us what just happened here?"
But the old man simply ignored him, gathered his things, and bolted.
He didn't stop until he reached the patrol car on the side of the road. Staring at its flashing red and blue lights, he hesitated, his hand reaching out, unable to resist the urge to touch it.
'Is this real or fake?'
But he quickly snatched his hand back.
'This must be an illusion created by the ghost. I can't trust it!'
The officers watched, stunned, as the old man reached out and touched the car, only to snatch his hand back as if he'd seen a ghost, his eyes darting around nervously.
