Claire Sinclair looked back at him, her eyes filled with disappointment. "You don't have to comfort me. I just feel bad for Faye, and I can't even help her."
"I'm sorry," Adrian Quincy said in a low voice.
Claire Sinclair took a breath to compose herself and continued, "When Faye's belly gets bigger, I don't know how she'll manage all on her own. And what about after she gives birth? How will she get through the postpartum period all by herself?"
Adrian Quincy had, of course, considered this problem as well, but hearing her voice it with such distress made his heart ache.
In the end, he relented, his tone softening. "I'll do what I can to get him out early."
A smile finally returned to Claire Sinclair's face. "You said it, so you have to keep your promise!"
Adrian Quincy gave a helpless smile, taking her small hand as they walked downstairs together. "I will. As long as you're happy, I'll do anything for you."
