When she heard him say he had arranged for her to study medicine and was sponsoring her admission to the Royal Academy, her heart warmed for a moment.
She'd thought Yuri Sinclair wanted to keep her locked away in the palace, but she never expected him to arrange such a wonderful opportunity for her instead.
'So, I'd misunderstood him.'
"Thank you, Your Highness." Ashley Bowen's ballpoint pen paused on her textbook, the tip bleeding a dot of ink onto the white paper. Her voice was incredibly soft.
The two of them had reached a point of treating each other with polite formality.
Yuri Sinclair awkwardly raised his hand, wanting to gently brush the bangs from Ashley Bowen's forehead, but he pulled it back.
The words "You're welcome" never left his lips. Yuri Sinclair forced a smile, turned his wheelchair, and left the study.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ashley Bowen watched him leave and smiled as well. But only she knew how bitter that smile truly was.
