When Shane Lester heard the word "husband," he glanced at Mortimer, then quickly looked back at the things in his hands. Before he could say anything, his grandmother came out.
Grandma Lester had met Mortimer Quincy before and knew he and Holly Winslow had gotten their marriage license. She said kindly, "Miles, you've gotten taller and stronger than a few years ago. Where's Holly? Why didn't Holly come over?"
Mortimer Quincy replied politely, "Grandma Lester, Holly is at home with her grandparents."
"Have her come over! I'm frying some crispy pork right now, and isn't that her favorite?" Grandma Lester then thought of something and looked at Shane Lester. "Young Shaw, go invite Grandma Winslow and the others over for some crispy pork. Tell them all to come, okay?"
Shane Lester grunted in acknowledgment and headed out. Mortimer Quincy handed the things he was holding to Grandma Lester and followed him.
