"Oh dear... my chest hurts... I can't breathe..."
Raina's lips turned ashen, and she started to sway. Phoebe Huxley jumped in alarm and quickly helped her sit down, praying nothing was seriously wrong. Byron Thorne brought over some heart pills, shook a few out, and gave them to Raina to take.
After a little while, Raina's breathing returned to normal, but she still looked pale. Phoebe Huxley helped her to the bed to lie down, feeling troubled herself. She was so used to her mother-in-law's fiery, larger-than-life presence; seeing her suddenly look so old and frail brought a pang of sorrow to her heart.
Her thoughts turned to her own three sons, and Phoebe Huxley started to worry. The girls her eldest and second son had their eyes on were both good; now she just had to worry about the youngest. 'I hope he doesn't end up like his disappointing uncle,' she thought. 'Otherwise, I'll be the next one to be angered to death.'
