Clayton Xavier wiped his eyes and sniffled. A lump formed in his throat. He hated this side of himself, but he couldn't help it.
Finding himself alone here, he finally let himself cry.
He didn't even know why he was crying. He just felt awful—not for himself, but for his mother.
If his mother hadn't married his father, if she hadn't given birth to him, her life would have been so much better. She wouldn't have had to work so hard. Clayton Xavier knew his mother no longer had any feelings for his father. The only reason she remained with the Xavier family was for him.
He was the one dragging his mother down.
Clayton Xavier sniffled again, his eyes hardening with resolve. He had to make money. A lot of money. So his mother could live a comfortable life.
He would never give his father another chance to call him a useless bum.
