He couldn't believe it, nor could he accept it.
As this thought crossed his mind, he voiced it. "Annabelle Linton, is this marriage just a transaction in your eyes? An ordeal? If it weren't for your brother, would we not even have had a chance to be together at all?"
He looked at her sadly, desperate to hear a different answer from her lips.
He hoped it wasn't true. He hoped she would curse him, even hit him, and demand to know why he was so prone to overthinking.
But, in the end, it was just a hope.
Annabelle Linton stared at him blankly and told him the truth. "Yes. I never wanted to remarry you in the first place. If it weren't for Ryan, I wouldn't have done it. You save my brother, I remarry you. Isn't that a transaction?"
Leona Grant scoffed, his sharp gaze sweeping over her. "And the ordeal? Because it was a transaction, because you remarried me against your will, it's also torture for you, right?"
