Vivian Yates took a furious step forward, glaring at Annabelle Linton. "Annabelle Linton, did you never intend to let Faye Sheffield go? Have you been playing me from the start?"
Annabelle Linton regarded her coolly, a harmless-looking smile gracing her lips.
But her expression clearly said, 'So what if I was playing you? What are you going to do about it?' "How could you call it playing me? Didn't I let her go?"
"But they still took Faye Sheffield away!"
"Then my apologies."
Annabelle Linton shrugged, speaking with a roguish air. "That's none of my business. Faye Sheffield isn't my mother or father. Did you expect me to go through hell and high water for her just because she's in trouble? I really can't compare to you, Miss Yates."
Trembling with rage, Vivian Yates grabbed a crystal ornament from the table and hurled it at Annabelle Linton. "You've gone too far!"
