The boat was now out at sea, and she was utterly helpless. She glanced back and saw Caleb Rhodes and the maritime police in speedboats, rapidly closing in. Not daring to move him again, she quickly took off her own padded jacket and draped it over him. Then she just sat beside him, holding his hand, weeping with helplessness and self-reproach.
If he hadn't been trying to save her... The bodyguard in the wheelhouse heard the gunshots and rushed out. He saw Julian Donovan lying on the deck and was about to charge forward, but he was shot dead by the police and Caleb Rhodes's team as they arrived.
