"Su Nuo…" The man's voice softened. "I'll give you the best of everything."
"I can earn it with my own two hands." Su Nuo glanced at her own slender, jade-like fingers and gently shook her head. She looked up at him. "I don't want this kind of flashy, superficial marriage."
"I got carried away before. I even forgot that I'm only eighteen—an age when I should be enjoying my youth."
"Flashy and superficial?"
"Yes. We rushed into this marriage. Our entire relationship is held together by two little certificates. No flowers, no wedding. This isn't what I want."
"You care about that stuff?" the man asked, his thin lips slightly parted as he gazed at her intently.
Su Nuo shrugged and smiled. "Why wouldn't I? I'm not the type to chase after some Platonic ideal of love. You think too highly of me."
The man was silent for a long time. After a while, he finally said, "I can give you all of that. But we are not getting a divorce."
