It was getting late. Nathaniel Nathan had a lot to do the next day, and Vera Xavier still had military training, so he couldn't stay for long. He kissed Vera one last time, then turned and left.

She started walking back, feeling a bit wistful, when Sheldon Caldwell suddenly popped out of the bushes, scaring her half to death. He pointed a finger at her and scolded sternly, "Vera Xavier, have you no self-respect? You're a girl! How can you just throw yourself at a man like that?"

Sheldon Caldwell froze instantly. Vera Xavier curled her lip. "You didn't actually think I was going to hug you, did you? I'm just messing with you!"
