Sheldon Caldwell watched Vera Xavier's retreating back and let out a nearly inaudible sigh. 'That girl is just too smart. That bastard Nathaniel Nathan must have some incredible luck to have landed her as a girlfriend.'
He silently pitied Susan Caldwell. 'She really had no foresight, picking an enemy like Vera Xavier. She's just asking for more trouble down the line.'
He wondered if he should warn Susan one more time not to argue with Vera Xavier. But then he recalled Susan's personality and figured the chances of him persuading her were slim to none.
The thought startled him. His first instinct when thinking about Susan was that she was difficult to persuade. This proved that the impression his sister had actually left on him was one of a competitive and stubborn person. And yet, he had always thought she was good-tempered and easy to talk to.
'Damn it!' Sheldon Caldwell cursed inwardly. In his military unit, they had a term for this phenomenon: "false image."
