Mrs. Xavier trembled with rage. "How can you be such a bully!"
"How am I bullying you?" the middle-aged woman said smugly. "If you ask me, penniless folk like you are better off dead, so you don't waste food! What are you staring at me for? If you've got the guts, then pay back the money!"
She then turned to Chloe and said with a look of disdain, "And you, little girl, don't be so reluctant. Given your family's circumstances, the fact that my nephew is willing to marry you is a blessing your ancestors could only dream of. Marrying you means he'll be dragged down by your whole family of worthless losers!"
