Yvonne Sloan smiled softly and nuzzled the little guy's head. "I like you a lot too. Whenever I have time, I'll take you out to play."
"But I want you to be my mommy, the kind who can be with me every day. After kindergarten, all the other kids get picked up by their mommies and daddies together. But for me, it's just Daddy who comes to get me."
The little guy blinked his big, dark eyes, his crestfallen expression heart-wrenching to see.
"You have a mommy. It's just... she's probably very, very busy right now and doesn't have time to come back and be with you. You're a little man, so you have to be strong."
"Do you not like me?"
The little boy looked so hurt he was on the verge of tears, the rims of his eyes turning red.
"Of course not. I like you very much, but Theo, you have your own mommy. I'm not her."
