Once a person gets complacent, they tend to get carried away. This was especially true for someone like Susan Sterling, who never knew when to quit while she was ahead. So, she pressed on, asking, "Teacher, with a score as good as my Simone's, she must be more than just the school's top science student, right? I know last year's results; the provincial top science student only scored in the 680s, but my Simone got almost 700 this year!"
However, after Susan Sterling finished, Simone's teacher didn't reply immediately, instead standing there rather awkwardly.
Susan Sterling paused, looking at Simone's teacher in confusion. "Teacher, is something wrong?"
The teacher quickly smiled. "Simone is an excellent student and our school's top science student this year. However, the provincial top science student isn't from our school."
The implication was clear: the provincial top science student was not Simone Holt.
