He pushed her away. "Catherine Callahan, you've pushed my boundaries until there's nothing left. Don't show your face in front of me again. Don't use the fact that I once loved you as an excuse to act so wantonly. That's not what a smart woman would do."
She put her clothes on. "But, Quentin, I left you back then because I loved you. I was thinking of you. Why... why don't you love me anymore now that I'm back? Quentin, have you ever thought about how happy we would have been if we'd gotten together last year?"
"I don't waste time thinking about impossible hypotheticals. You and I are impossible, now and forever. Stop doing these pointless things that just disgust me. It's completely useless."
With that, he turned and went upstairs.
Catherine Callahan stood at the door, staring at the top of the stairs, feeling utterly miserable.
