"Okay, got it." Cecilia Adler agreed obediently. After saying goodbye to Teacher Kent, she left. She went straight back to the courtyard house, settling into the side room she and Ian Quincy used to live in to sort out her ledgers.
Aunt Moss knocked on the door, holding a cup of tea. "Cecilia, would you like some water?"
Cecilia calmly closed her notebook, covering the receipts next to it. "Just put it here."
Only then did Aunt Moss enter, set down the water, and turn to leave.
Cecilia stopped her. "Aunt Moss, from now on, if I want water, I'll ask you for it. If I don't call for you, you don't need to come." The weather was hot, and it was stuffy with the door closed, so she had to leave it open. She had been focused on her work with her head down and hadn't noticed what was happening outside. She had no idea how long the woman had been standing there, how good her eyesight was, or if she had seen what Cecilia was doing.
