Her mother-in-law stated her reasoning.
Jim Quincy shot her a sideways glance. 'Cecilia's studies are demanding, yet here she is, trying to make her waste time on useless socializing. Does she have a brain? It would be better for Cecilia to memorize a few more words than to go out making friends.'
Old Kent had said Cecilia was naturally gifted and a quick study. If Ian had the chance to go abroad in the future, she could go with him to study.
It would let her see the world, broaden her horizons, and improve her skills and awareness. It wasn't out of the question that she could even help Ian with his career.
But the words had already been spoken, so it was awkward for him to take them back. "Having fun is fine, but don't let your studies slide."
Cecilia Adler said, "I know what I'm doing."
