Titus Shaw stopped. "What's wrong?"
"Men and women should maintain their distance."
Titus Shaw was speechless. "…I'm your father."
Cecilia Adler lowered her gaze. "You never raised me."
An unbearable ache seized Titus Shaw's heart. How he wished he could have raised her. If he hadn't forgotten Seraphina, he would have been there for Cecilia from the time she was a baby. He and Seraphina would never have had other children; they would have devoted all their love to her alone, teaching her how to read and write.
The very first words they would have taught her to write would have been 'Mom' and 'Dad.'
Not like this, where she was reluctant to even see him, let alone say more than a few words.
He asked, his voice strained, "Won't you give me a chance to make amends?"
