"For me?" The old man was pleasantly surprised. "How thoughtful of you."
"Don't mention it." Cecilia Adler saw him downstairs.
The old man's daughter-in-law, Ms. Dalton, was waiting for him.
When Ms. Dalton's and Cecilia's eyes met, she looked a little embarrassed. Those copper coins… she had thought they were antiques, but after asking a colleague she was close with, it turned out they were worthless. 'If I'd known, I should have had the old man give them to Cecilia,' she thought. 'Getting closer to the Quillan family couldn't hurt.'
She said, "Dad said it's all thanks to you that he didn't go hungry these past two days. We're making meat dumplings at my place tonight. Why don't you join us?"
"Is your kitchen working now?"
"It's being repaired. It'll still be a few days. I'll make them at the cafeteria and bring them home to eat."
Cecilia Adler replied, "My partner and I are going back to his family's home today, so please don't go to the trouble."
