Cecilia Adler didn't like to talk about children. It wasn't that she didn't want any.
It was that he'd take off his glasses.
And probably say, 'Who said anything about kids?'
'When did I ever say I wanted kids?'
It left her speechless, unable to argue back. After all, he had his issues and couldn't handle being provoked.
She had to be the one to give in.
She changed the subject. "Want to go hiking tomorrow? I hear the view from the mountain is gorgeous right now. We can take some pictures."
"Take pictures? Okay," Ian Quincy agreed cheerfully.
The two of them got ready for bed. Just as they lay down, there was a knock on the door.
Ian opened the door. It was the old man from before, holding the Copper Coin knot. "Young man, I told you it was a gift. Who gave you permission to let them take it back?"
"We couldn't possibly accept it. Please, take it back," Ian said, closing the door.
