That night, Shen Weimin and Xu Changqing placed an order with the neighborhood-run garment workshop—the one that had been supplying them ever since their deal with He Youfeng—and then rushed off to another.
This one was larger, a village-run garment factory. In reality, it was a private factory operated by an individual contractor who paid management fees to be affiliated with a collective unit.
It was an open secret. As long as you were willing to pay, you could show up with nothing more than a design sketch, and they would create a sample, finalize the design, and deliver the goods on schedule.
This was still an era where reputation mattered in business. That very night, after approving the sample at this clothing factory, Xu Changqing placed an order worth over ten thousand.
This didn't even include the three thousand pairs of bell-bottoms the factory had already produced but not yet shipped. Watching her, Shen Weimin knew she was about to make a big move.
