With the foreign language supplemental exam over, both Xu Changqing and Shen Weimin breathed a sigh of relief. They felt confident about their Gaokao scores, even though the results hadn't been released yet.
The exam questions weren't particularly difficult. The only mentally taxing subjects were Chinese and Politics, mainly because there had been very little review material available for them.
Shen Weimin had resorted to cramming with current newspaper editorials. He did his best to answer the questions with the era's typical mindset and borrowed some boilerplate language, which made the process much smoother during the actual exam.
Overall, he knew his Gaokao score probably couldn't compare to his wife's, but he expected the result would still be quite gratifying—pretty good, in fact.
