Bai Xiulan nodded crisply. For her Changqing to be willing to talk at such length meant it couldn't possibly be just idle gossip.
However, even if you were to ask again, to try and get Changqing to explain it clearly, she wouldn't open her mouth. You couldn't pry another word out of her—not even half a sentence.
"You know something, don't you?" Old Mrs. Xu asked, watching Xu Changqing enter with a basin of water. "Did your father tell you that your Third Brother found someone else while he was away, but it didn't work out?"
Bai Xiulan's head snapped up to look at Old Mrs. Xu. 'Impressive. You even know a trick like that to force your own grandchild to talk! You want to bet she doesn't just explode with anger?'
"Hah! Is my dad the kind of person who gossips behind people's backs?" Xu Changqing glared at Old Mrs. Xu. "Like I'd need him to tell me. What, you think I don't have eyes in my head?"
