Clearly, no one was in the mood to joke around. Xu Changqing didn't know whether to laugh or cry as she looked at the white, fine-print floral shirt with a Peter Pan collar that Tian Dongmei had just shaken out.
"Hurry," Tian Dongmei urged, stuffing the shirt into her hands. She then picked up a pair of dark blue overalls from the kang, shook them out for a look, and, nodding in satisfaction, handed them over too.
Xu Changqing put a hand to her forehead.
'What on earth was Dad thinking? Don't tell me a few words from that dog Fang Jun actually got to him. I'm so dark and skinny right now; anything nice would be a complete waste.'
'Look at this whole spread... Two short-sleeved shirts, two long-sleeved ones, and three pairs of pants? So all that fabric they bought the other day was meant just for me.'
'This dad of mine...'
"Wait a second. Silly me." Tian Dongmei patted her forehead and hurried over to open a cabinet on the kang. "I almost forgot to get the shoes."
